In this thread, I would like to interview one of the regulars of /x/. I'm looking for the Watcher; Watcher, please respond. I would like to ask you a series of interview questions, to plumb your brain. I would like to do it here, in this forum, publicly. I know of you from the /x/ post details thread and from seeing a couple of your posts online, so this isn't a paranormal request, just one to answer questions that are interesting and relevant to /x/.

To those of you who don't know the Watcher is: he's a guy who says he's studied the occult since age 11, and frequently drops bits and pieces of his knowledge into threads. I do not think he is paranormal; I don't even know if he has paranormal abilities. He might not; asking for paranormal experiences is not the purpose of this thread. I'm writing because I'd like to ask him about his reading, the areas he has studied, and what he's learned from it. It's more of a research thread than a firsthand experience thread, fyi; but the world needs researchers too.

No, I haven't I avoid calling any angelic entities, they are very tempermental, moreso than demons, all for the smiting if you don't match their idea of "moral".

I have however done a few of the lower (ambient spirit level) rites, nothing to write home about.

First and most importantly, thank you for responding.

I'm sorry if I'm a little tired, and my questions aren't as good as I would have wanted. I'd like to ask more about your areas of expertise (which I don't know), so I'll ask leading questions, in a way. My questions will probably sound rather clumsy, because I don't know that much about the topics in question. If my questions are fundamentally misguided or unanswerable, feel free to say so.

What areas of magic have you studied? Among the following three, which one would you say you have the most experience in: Ceremonial, Qabalistic, or Chaos?

Have you known anyone who has undergone the operation to speak to their Holy Guardian Angel? If you've studied this operation in depth, can you say more about it?

Also, I think you mentioned somewhere that you had studied some Eastern traditions. If you could elaborate on that, please do, i.e. if you mean Taosim, Tantra, or something else.

Feel free to pick and choose among these questions, as I'm happy to receive a response on any of them.
    >> Anonymous 11/30/08(Sun)23:37 No.1140831
Also, Watcher, I will be happy to tripcode, upon request.

    >>1140781

I will try to keep the questions focused on research, broadly defined. If this research includes personal experience (and the willingness to share), then I will ask those too. However, I will strive to avoid open-ended, overly generic or subjective questions like "What is magic" or "How do I do magic."
    >> Anonymous 11/30/08(Sun)23:44 No.1140853
OP again. About the entities in magic: do you believe that these are psychological, i.e. all inside our heads, or do you believe they have an objective existence?

Would you say that you subscribe to a basically Neoplatonist philosophy of God, the universe, etc.?

Are there any "ethnic" areas of magic you are interested in that would not fall under the heading of Judeo-Christian?

What do you think about the use of drugs to induce spiritual experiences, like ayahuasca, salvia divinorum, DMT, etc.

Do you know any foreign languages, especially Greek, Hebrew, or Sanskrit? Do you believe these are truly 'magical languages,' or is the role of individual languages in magic unimportant?
    >> Anonymous 11/30/08(Sun)23:46 No.1140857
Other anons can ask question to Watcher?
If so, I remember you mentioned Onmyodo, where did you learn it and is there any bibliography in English on the matter?
    Thanks.

Not that I blame you, OP.
    >> Anonymous 11/30/08(Sun)23:54 No.1140878
OP once more. From a research perspective, are there any languages which you consider it particularly important to know? Latin and Hebrew seem like the two most obvious candidates, to my mind.

I don't often here of people talking about Sanskrit as a magical language, though it clearly is. Do you think it is neglected? For lack of a better word, do you have any experience with Indian magic?

Have you explored (or researched) the astral field? Is it interesting to you? Is it safe?

Anything to say on the topic of Edgar Cayce and/or the Akashic records?

Do you belong to any religious denomination? If not, is there one you would say you are closest to?

    >>1140859

Definitely not; I don't know of any classes (other than anthropology) where I could turn this in for a grade. Besides, I'm not attending college at the moment. Watcher is free to answer as many of these questions as he wants, and ignore as many as he wants.

    >>1140857

That's fine with me; Watcher is welcome to answer other questions he finds more interesting than mine, since the answers are the really illuminating part.

Someone told me not to mess with Enochian because if you don't know what you're doing it's fucking easy to get raped in the butt by some mediocre demon. Angels are notorious for being dicks though, and aren't the warm, fuzzy, Hallmark channel bastards everyone thinks they are. It's like the difference between Edward Cullen and Dracula.

Anyway, if Watcher doesn't mind, I have a question: how can you tell if a spirit you're dealing with is actually who they claim to be? It's easy for someone to say they're some notorious demon or Heath Ledger or some bullshit, but how can I be sure they're not making things up to mess with me?

    OP again.

What do you think about channeled material? To take two popular examples, A Course In Miracles and the Urantia Book.

    Have you studied Emmanuel Swedenborg?

Do you have any thoughts on the mass popularization of Kabbalah that have been happening in the past decade?

There have been a number of 19th century spiritual movements that have fallen by the wayside, i.e. Spiritualism, Theosophy, the Society of St. Germaine. Have you found any interesting material there?

Do you believe there are hidden brotherhoods and ascended masters that are currently active?

Do you practice tarot, or astrology?

Have you worked with Egyptian, Greek or Norse magical pantheons?

    From the top:

Areas (will limit to western as eastern is a seperate question): Ceremonial, Zoroastrian (*shudder*), enochian (I have studied, study does not equal practice.), Chaos Magick/discordia, Demonology, Qaballah, Thelemic, Alchemy, Voodoo, and lastly Gnostic, what little I could find, most of their texts were burned in the christian heretic raids in the 4th and 5th century. I have also dipped into greek magic, but barely gotten my feet wet there -- my area of expertise is defense, that is, warding, banishing and the like. Area i've delved the deepest into is Chaos Magick, was my first, so to speak.

As for the HGA, I do not know anyone who has contact it, nor have I contacted mine, as for what I can say about it, is the concept (that being a second "greater" self on the outside, sort of a half only visible on the astral plane) pops ups constantly, in a variety of schools. The Half-angel theory in Enoch, the "death self" in chaos, etc.

Eastern magic: I have went into tantra again at a "feet wetting" level, I have however studied various sects of esoteric Buddhism in depth, as well as onmyoudo/taoism.

    Next post:

Entities are.. complicated, both "all in our heads" yet not, I subscribe to a very chaos-esque view of them, in that all "Entities" were made by humans, products of our belief, certain things -- gods, angels, etc, are the results of so much belief over such a long period of time they became sentient.

You can both say I do and don't, Chaos magick's most base point is that belief is a tool, we fake it until we make it, if a work requires a faithful christian, then we make ourselves one for the purpose of the work.

However, chaos rules all, everything was born from it, and everything will return to it eventually, everything can be chocked up to pure chaos in the end.

Plenty, in particular, I would have to say Norse magic has always interested me, it goes so deep for a mythology based system

I have one thing to say about drugs: There are many gateways, some of which are supposed to be walked through slowly, chemically ripping them open is never a good idea.

Languages: English (lol), japanese (major!\o/), Latin, Gaelic (family =/), and uh, two years of high school german, *nod* -- Will likely get around to learning sanskrit one of these days.

How interesting, about Zoroastrianism - I have never met anyone who has studied it. What do you have to say about it? Is it worth investigating? Why the shudder?

I see that you have specialized (if I can use that word) in Chaos magic; one of the more interesting online accounts speaks about Fotamecus and time dilation. Do you have any knowledge or experience of this?

Does Japan have any interesting magical traditions? I usually hear of Japan in the context of Shintoism and Zen Buddhism, at a very general level.

Language is as powerful as the person speaking it, Names hold more importance than the language itself, goes back to the belief thing, eventually attributes given to an item become attached to the name.

Automatic writing, in the hands of a mage (Spare comes to mind, his Zos works were Automatic writings) very useful tools, otherwise, a good marketing scheme, "a voice from god made me do it!" is a good way to sell copies.

Emmanuel Swedenborg.. I have nothing more o say about him than I do any other famous clairvoyant, his "Gifts" could have come from anywhere.

Pitiful as the big witch/vampire boom in the 80's, it takes a sacred thing and drags it through the dirt. I once wore a charm of rachel on my right wrist for a year or so, and had people coming up and asking me about the "Kaballic charm on my hand, like Madonna's!" I was on the verge of putting a barrier around the thing to shut them up.

Many are people going for a quick buck, though i've found a few.. interesting things in the Society of St. Germaine's teachings, but.. anything with St. Germaine is bound to have that.

I'm not so blind as to say there aren't, the world is a very wide place

All 3, Thanatos is part of my personal pantheon perse, and hell, when at a neutral state, i'm a discordian by nature, Eris is my unburdened lady.

Norse, as I mentioned, I am very interested in, I can read runes, in the process of learning the creation of them.

Egyptian.. not so much, more likely to go Sumerian if I go that far back.

Well yeah, if you're purposefully summoning something and you're doing it right then of course they're not gonna lie about it. But what if you're not summoning someone and it's just a random encounter? There's some significance behind names, right? One particular entity that I work with wouldn't give me a name for the longest time until they learned they could trust me. All I want to know is how to be sure they didn't give me a fake name.

    Skipped this, heh.

Sanskrit is, and as you said, very ignored, it's a bit too.. old for many people, for good reason i'd guess, there are things people shouldn't find hidden in the cracks there.

Astral field, yes, i've played with it, no, it's not safe, those 'things lurking on the edges of reality' lovecraft wrote about exist on that side, except they aren't quite so obvious.

Cayce is.. Cayce, see what I said about Swedenborg for my feelings on him.

THe Akashic record however I could write you a paper on, so i'm not going to go into

lastly, as I said, I am a discordian when in a neutral state.

also forgive my keyboard, it's a piece of junk, and correcting all the typos is getting annoying

Hate to say it, but.. It did. First rule of binding, use your full power to get a true name out of it. When it comes to entities a True name is as good as a total control switch, they don't just give it once they've gained "trust" you have to work the binding to force it out of them.

    >>1140976
Zoroastrian magic deals with some dark shit, primal dark, sumerian blood sacrifice dark. there is no "Good" zoroastrian magic, and one slip up and angra mainyu comes knocking on your door. That's why I shuddered.

Fotometicus, To be honest, I don't think it ever happened, the story itself was a sort of sigil to work towards his creation, whichever, it worked, i've worked with him before, results were convincing enough.

Japan has alot of them, before the end of the sengoku area, many territories of japan were like native american tribes, they had their own religions, Kami that watched the lands, etc, diverse doesn't begin to describe it -- a good example of this is dialects, dialects in japan are interesting, there are certain corruptions that show up in the north and south, and in some places the "native" (most japanese people speak tokyo-ben regardless) dialect is so far seperated from the tokyo (which is what is taught around the world) dialect, that it qualifies as a different language, albeit in the same family.

Oh damn it I figured as much. The thing I deal with is WAY more powerful than I am so I have no idea how to bind it, but it's not like I was doing some retard summoning and conjured him up or anything. I'm a pretty experienced spiritual medium and stuff comes over to chat all the time. This guy seems like he's an upper level being and not just some punkass midgrade spirit, but he gave me a generic name that I was suspicious about from the start. It may, I won't say that it won't, the problem with science is it draws a circle, and things outside the circle are ignored and rejected, things like that are outside the circle, finding entities requires an open mind, until modern science gets rid of it's closed mindedness, so it won't.

Don't get me started on how pop culture has raped the vampire.

    http://www.sacred-texts.com/goth/vkk/index.htm

book written at the start of the 20th century by a priest who went crazed over them, it's mostly crazed ramblings, but gives a feeling of the true "Fear' they birthed before this.

As for Insanity... well, A great person once said, in her view of 'psychics'

"The human brain is like a television, say there are 12 channels, and everyone watches channel 7, it's the "normal" channel, we all love channel 7, it's our friend, however we've spent so long on chapter 7 that we no longer have the ability change channels.

Now, let us say on channel 3, people have the ability o chat with plants, now, there are people with the ability to view both channel 3 and 7, we call those "psychics' if played well, or just stomp on them as society, because they have to be lying fools.

However, say something happens that forces fly into channel 3 without the ability to change it, we call those people "crazy" and lock them up in an asylum, because after all, they were normal a minute ago and now they claim they can talk to plants, and have trouble talking to others, they can't be normal!"

As for "magic".. Hong Kong, believe it or not, one of the most used ports in the world, with a long running history of chinese mages, places like that gather people of power just by existence, a hundred years ago, indian ports would be perfect for this, still are good, but hong kong is so much better.

My exGF was pretty accurate at Tarot but any close minded peson will simply call bullshit. The problem is that science right now can't prove things outside its framework and there's also the little fact that some things are explained by both science and magic and boths explanations can be true. shit man, that is difficult. You have two main choices

Choice #1: Repress it. Try not to think about, etc. Thats the shit most psychologist do and do not recomend it because it becomes like a cancer in your personality.

Choice #2: Supress it. Become hiperconcious about it and each day try to give it less importance. Eventually you'll start to care less and less. Its kinda forgetting about a girl. If you have to cry it out, do it. The key is to pull it out, not in. [recomended]

wait a moment, this thread is fascinating but I have to interject.
I really thought the vast majority of people in here would have been studying the occult or at least a certain aspect of it from a very young age.
I honestly didnt think that was special.

I'm not saying this at all to question or to cast doubt on watcher, Im just thinking to myself "wtf maybe Ive found a place I can use some of this quarter of a century of study"

I don't want to steal watchers thunder or anything but if anyone else is interested in the opinion of someone whos been studying the occult basically since they could read id be happy to help.

I don't claim to have powers or be anything "special", not any more special than any of you anyway. but.... wow... as silly as it sounds, a chance to help sounds.... cool and the thought that I might be somehow "special" because of this is almost intimidating but awesome.

    Watcher:

You mentioned "second selves" and "death selves." I have compelling evidence that I am being plagued by a negative version of these - something I believe to be a malicious aspect of myself that is partly externalized - sort of a ghost of myself that I have created and now haunts me. I know it all sounds very psychological but once again, things have happened (such as other people seeing this other me in dreams) that convince me this is an actual entity. How do I go about binding and dismissing it?

I used to imagine this sort of darker, spectral version of myself. I wrote a short story about him for a class in college and felt I should use my middle name as his name. Within a matter of days my girlfriend told me about a dream she had where I appeared exactly as my imagined character (darker hair, brighter eyes, paler skin - sort of lame and emo sounding but scary) and hurt her physically. She had never read or heard of the story I had written. She saw this other me every night for a week. Soon after I became fairly depressed and felt strange all the time. I began acting like an asshole and didn't even notice. I felt sad and powerful and crazy. One day a friend came over to my room and in the middle of a conversation he jumped back and screamed. He explained that he had seen what appeared to be my face in the mirror on my wall but different. He got the impression that it was evil and had a malicious intent and was reasonably freaked out for a while afterwards. I worked for months to banish this other self, and have largely succeeded, but I fear that he is still there, lying dormant. I haven't used any sort of occult ritual or magic to do this - just pure will. I worry that it will take something more than just will to finish this. What can I do? Thank you watcher for your advice. Could you give me more specifics about how to "confront" this entity? Again, I'd really appreciate any help from anyone who is knowledgeable about these things.

I think as watcher said confrontation is rule #1. It sounds as if you've already begun the process. You have to realize that this thing is made, more or less of you. you're not so much binding or dispelling in a traditional sense as you are 're-absorbing' or containing it, forcing it to return to its source where it "belongs".

Further you have to recognize this thing is a part of you, you have to confront that and deal with he fact that its still inside you somewhere. I would personally try once confronted, to slowly alter its energy or purpose, you have enough in common you could begin to alter it within yourself and reclaim it into you.
Remember that its a part of you that belongs to you, you want it back you're taking it back to do with as you chose. You made it you have the power to un-make it or demand its cooperation.

well in that case it might be what you're looking for. I might also recommend automatic writing. Again Id caution though that you might want to try to invite specific energies rather than a completely open door policy but, your call. My only other piece of advice when contacting pretty much anything is to be open to them communicating with you in a multitude of ways, they don't always want to play whatever game you're playing with that day but they will take notice.

not so much, the XXX of a virgin is often used in rituals where something extremely pure is required, untainted, that substitutes for that.. but there are plenty of other things that fill the role just as well that don't involve killing a perfectly good virgin.

and to the other guy -- I don't do personal contact, i've made too many annoying relationships in the past to do that, so anyone posing as me who sends you an email, isn't me.

Our culture has lost the context that allows for a sane spirituality. Why religions don't work anymore? Because we lost the sense of community, both with nature and with our fellow humans. God is what is invoked, deities are communal/tribal deities that respond to particular need of a group integrated with its environment. People drink ayahuasca and iboga or chew coca leaves with limestone inside the context of a very specific world view, the same way the Greeks took their entheogenic drugs in the context of the Eleusian Mysteries. It is a long way for the lonely Western man to go back in that path.
