But, this paper would prefer to not be thought of as an opinionated discussion. So, I ask myself, how do I go about composing an argument that is not to be at all arbitrary, when asked a question as personal as that of what I believe is ethical or not? Ethics by the dictionary definition is: \cf1 Standards of conduct or moral judgment. Moral judgment, a correlation of words that you, yourself give the definition to. Morality relates to a single individual. To ask what a specific person credits to be ethical or not, you should accept that you will receive a rather narrow-minded answer. But I willing to dismiss this paradox, and simply answer the question. So, my stand on the issue of if cloning for medical research is ethical or not, is yes, I believe, based on conclusive evidence, that for the use of medical justification, cloning is perfectly moral.\par \pard\fi720\sl480\slmult1 To begin the discussion of if cloning is ethical, when used for medical purposes, I will start with the affirmation that to deny cloning, is to deny any American of their Constitutional right to \ldblquote bear and beget\rdblquote children. It is only decent for the government to stay without interference when it comes to an American citizen bearing children. It is unethical, however, to reject an infertile couple, which has already evaluated the current treatments that are offered, of a child of their own. With the low success rate of the options given to infertile couples that exist today, and the procedures that can cause the couple great physical and emotional pain, cloning is the obvious solution. Using cloning in this case, would give an infertile American, a chance to love and cherish his or her own genetic children. \par A second reason that cloning is ethical, when used for medical exploration, is that it would aid in the discovery of different techniques for organ transplanting. It would effectively save many lives. This use of cloning is called therapeutic cloning, and it involves growing replacement organs from a sample of a person\rquote s DNA. If this technique were to be used, the supply of organs would be exponential, and freely available at any given time. Cloning an organ derived from you, yourself, would then create the absolute perfect match, and completely eliminate the risk of rejection of the organ. Patients today, that are in need of an organ or tissue transplant, wait countless numbers of days for a possibility of being cured. With therapeutic cloning, the risk of failure of the organ would be virtually nonexistent. The goal of therapeutic cloning is not at all to create an entire human entity, but to harvest stem cells, from you, and produce an ideal organ or tissue that your body will not reject. Also, another goal of therapeutic cloning is to simple study human development.\par \tab A third cause in my belief of cloning being ethical for medical research, would be how much cloning would effectively rid human beings of a variety of illnesses.. Scientists can cure this conglomeration of illnesses by using embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are cells that can grow into any certain tissue. This is another form of therapuetic cloning. By using this process, scientists can thus create replacement cells for patients that have had disorders that cause any degeneration of cells. An example in which to use this treatment would be for treating diabetes. Diabetes is a disorder that causes the insulin-producing cells in your pancreas to become fewer. By using this method of therapuetic cloning, diabetes can be completely reversed by creating more insulin-producing cells. A few more illnesses, diseases, or disorders that are all capable of being cured by using this treatment are; muscular dystrophy, heart failure, and multiple sclerosis.\par \pard\sl480\slmult1\cf0\tab As you can see, when used for medical incentive, cloning is perfectly ethical. Of course, with any subject like that of cloning, there are negative aspects. It would be ignorant to not mention the shortcomings that arise from cloning. There are many things from religious disputes, to the mere thought of world domination of a race of cloned human beings. The constant debate whether cloning is ethical or not, will never come to an agreement. With the existence of certain morals in theists, and the views on what is ethical or not in atheists, it is quite possible that the thought of using any sort of cloning, for any reason at all, may stay completely absent. This is truly disappointing, considering how cloning for medical research would obviously have a positive influence on society.\par }
