I simply wanted to ask you whether or not you have any restrictions or complaints to me using the name "Rintaun" for a character that, were all to fall into place, would be a center focus of a series of sprite animations that compliment various Nico Nico medleys uploaded onto the website. I really don't know whether or not I'll be able to accomplish what I have in my mind, but as there isn't anything I'd rather do for now I suppose I should write out the ideas in my head. You see, I didn't start listening to Nico Nico medleys until...Wow. Okay, here's the explanation of how I got where I am, then. I started playing Portal, the game developed by Valve, a very long time ago, over a year at least (Fall of '07?). I got hooked onto the credit song, as many have, titled "Still Alive" by Jonathan Coulton. I looked it up on YouTube, listened to various remixes of it. Heavy rock remix, techno remix, and thus I found "Still Alive" remixed by none other than Hatsune Miku. Intrigued by the robo-tone voice (I'd heard a few synthesizers before, and this was much more advanced) I looked up Hatsune Miku, and found my first medley: Nico Nico Ryuuseigun, Chaos version. Although utterly bewildered by some of the bizzare pictures and audio mixes in the medley, I clearly picked up on "Melt" by Miku, the Kirby Gourmet Race song, as well as a few of the anime I had heretofore seen (i.e. Lucky Star, Melancholy of Haruhi, Shakugan no Shana). Inevitably I was led to the previous "Nico Nico Kumikyoku", I believe it was the version with fifteen users (among them J, nayuta, Re:, etc.) that I first heard. I began to explore what the medleys consisted of, found out the wonderful world of IOSYS (though I wouldn't actually get into Touhou until a year later when someone showed me Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, the first Windows game in the series) with videos such as "Marisa Stole the Precious Thing" and "Overdrive". I began to use the medleys as a sort of "anime checklist", and from it came my now vibrant fandom for Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Bamboo Blade, Hidamari Sketch, and so on. But my mind was not stopping, it took it to another level. When I found this wonderful database of medleys, I jubilantly loaded up my music player almost to the brim with these great works. I would begin to listen to them in the car, on the bus, in classrooms. A brief interruption to say that before any of this I had had a strange quirk when listening to my previous music. If I plugged my ears with the sounds of Mario, for instance, I would gaze out the window (this usually only works well when I'm in a moving vehicle) and visualize the cast of the game running alongside the road, jumping from tree to tree, and battling one another. I was also an avid fan of role-playing in video game forums, mainly among my friends in a small circle of ten or twenty that was devoted to spriting and RPing. We would develop our special characters (normally based off pre-existing ones) and have them join together in stories, quests, and sprite comics. That was all the way back when I was twelve or thirteen in 2005 and still a member of the NSider forums. I'm amazed I can remember all this, my memory normally hides my past from me, so I'm glad this is happening now before I forget this all. As unique as these mannerisms may be, they have stuck with me up to the point wherein I type this message. I no longer am active on those forums of old, my spriting skills are very rusty. However, I still see anime characters sprint about when I sit in the back of the bus, and this was a springboard for the Nico Nico medleys. Out of nowhere I developed a more-or-less anonymous character, if I recall he (I think it was a he) looked something like a standard ninja, probably due to anime influences. This character was subject to the designs of my brain as it listend to the song, I would imagine him pulling out a sword, clashing forces against the character(s) whose theme(s) were playing in my ears at the time. Usually, as most medleys ended this way, I had pictured him ultimately foiling a plot or scheme of the priest-like man whose song (Onmyoji? I know that's not right, but it's close) played at the end of Ryuuseigun, Monogatari, and a few others. I now desire to put out these fabrications concocted inside my brain into a tangible existence in the real world. Were I to die in this instance, my aspirations would fall to ruin like leaves scattered on the forest floor by a sudden autumn breeze, dolorous, but it's an inconvenient truth I am facing at the moment. The only thing standing in my way are my lackluster skills in spriting and drawing. My mind is able to picture the characters in full-on anime form, but my hands have an altogether bizzare quality of only being able to hand-draw symmetrical designs (this is most likely due to my proficiency with math in my education, so I think, and the neglecting of any artistic abilities I may have had as a child). Thus I turn to my spriting abilties, which while most certainly not the best are adequate. However, I am indeed rusty, four years rusty. I have also never handled such an enormous project as what now stands before me. I have a side-project I desire to accomplish first (here), and if I can finish that (even if I can't) this monstrous task will never be gotten rid of in my consciousness; it will forever haunt my thoughts. The amount of work I will/would have to do is insane, I would have to build custom animations and custom sprites from scratch of over at least a hundred characters. I've only ever made two or three of these previously in that spriting circle I've mentioned, and even then they aren't the most impressive things in the world. As far as animation goes, I have little to no knowledge of Flash nor do I have access to it anymore. The computer where I could use it is at school, which I will most likely never be able to reach again. I have worked with Paint many, many times before, and pulled off small animations for forum avatars and signatures, but these were all frame-by-frame and not larger than 200x200 pixels. The best examples of my spritework I have are my signature you see below as well as my Photobucket album. I'm just...overwhelmed...But I apologize for going off topic with my the history of these last four years of my online life, and I ask you again can I please use your name "Rintaun" to title this series of sprite animations (if I ever actually complete them, and the "if" scares me to death whenever I ponder it) as well as be the name for that main character whose appearance I still want to determine? If you read all of this, I thank you from the very deepest chambers of my heart, Twila.
