provides a standardized method of logging system status changes and alerting
non-engineering staff to these changes in a straight-forward and consistent
manner.

Once an entry is made via
.B logit
a corresponding log entry is made to the system logfile and e-mail is sent to
the
.I staff
address so that all employees are kept abreast of changes.

For accountability purposes,
.I root
is not permitted to make a logfile entry.  If
you attempt to do so, the program will prompt you for your true login id.
