I'm cleaning up what seems like umpty-seven bajillion megs of just plain CRAP that's stored on the disk of the roadside machine I snagged and made mention of a couple-three weeks ago, and I'm going out of my head with the friggin' "Are you sure you want to delete ?" dialogs popping up every time I try to toss another file full of insipid garbage from the previous user's surfing/computer use. Side note to nowhere: Based on the stuff I'm dumping by what seems like the metric ton, said user was a teenage girl with a marked affinity for those idiotic "What season are you?", "What flower are you?", "What are you?" websites - and even worse, she was a compulsive saver of the results - each one in its own file, most of them located as far from the others as possible, each the sole occumpant of its own separate subdirectory, all bearing names that are useless for any purpose, and most with their own individual icon and/or extension! Never mind the multiple thousand 3-10 second song/video clips from some sort of "Sample MP3s" site (or several) and who-knows-how-many files scattered from hell to breakfast that appear to be something like, but not actually, an attempt at a diary/journal type thing, at least 200 (that I've encountered so far - no telling how many more I'll find hiding in various nooks and crannies - aborted resumes, and hundreds of PC Paintbrush (or something similar) files of "art" that a 4 year old would be ashamed of. How do people DO this sort of thing to a computer?!?!? Anyway, back on track... I've figured out how to get the trash can/recycle bin to quit asking me if I'm "...sure you want to permanently delete these items?", but getting the system to quit asking me if I'm sure I want to put things in the bin to begin with has me stumped. On a Mac, it would be a checkbox in the "General preferences" control panel. I can't find an equivalent for Windows, and I'm going bonkers! HELP, PLEASE!!!!!! And while I've got someone's attention, is there a Windows way to set up something like Mac's "Dial on demand" concept? (As in "If there's no internet connection open and something needs one, go ahead and connect using the dial-up configuration that's marked as the default.") - WITHOUT having the machine either popping up a dialog asking me for permission to dial (in triplicate, no less!) every 30-45 seconds anytime it isn't connected (Even when I'm not doing anything even remotely related to internet activity), or more or less permanently auto-connecting at startup? Trying to bring this box into a state that I'd consider to be something that at least bears a passing resemblance to usable and organized is reminding me over and over and over again why I've always considered Windows to be a pile of crap put together by a committee of manic-depressive idiots presided over by a drunk schizophrenic throwing dice to decide what "features" to put in. Thankfully, I've kept the Mac for "real" work... God knows I'd get absolutely *NOTHING* accomplished if I'd simply jumped to Windows and dumped the Mac.
