Perl and MYSQL .....Datetime problem..

in perl I am getting date with localtime() ...
inserting successfully in MYSQL with data type of field is varchar...
but unable to insert the date when MYSQL file datatype is datetime...

any help???

 $callstart = localtime();
 $dbh->do("INSERT INTO CDR(CallTime) VALUES (" . $dbh->quote($callstart) . ")");

If CallTime field's type is VARCHAR then it works....
It doesnt work when CallTime Field's type is DateTime or TimeStamp...
