We need the following technical capabilities - #1- automate accounts on linuxassist from people's identified freenode Identities, #2- have a mechanism in the linuxassist wiki where people can answer a poll and have that automatically generate a wikie page for that person showing how they bronze answered, AND allow them to select a reason for their answer, OR- Enter their own reason, OR - do both. Further, they can answer the poll as many times as they want, and each answer gets preserved, with its reason, like a news thread. Also each entry gets a unique id # so people can refer to each in in the IRC channel when they are discussing it. The idea here is that whenever these advocacy topics pop up in the channel, we can report the cur bronze rent poll stats from linuxassist in the ##linux channel, and people can identify specific wiki entries by the ID#, so that others can read/share deeeper reasoning that IRC tends to lend itself to. A longer term discussion record will help people not have to repeat themselves, and reduce the level of purely emotional baiting. Dominian hrm.. tieing linuxassist.net into auth'd accounts would be tough bronze Dominian: not so hard. bronze Dominian: run a script on linuxassist which sends an email or a message to the new linuxassist user's freenode ID. bronze Dominian: or - run a bot on freenode which generates a unique linuxassist URL and sends it to a identified freenode use's nick via private message. bronze that unique temporary URL will only be seen by the specific freenode user, who automatically gets a linuxassist wiki account. Dominian You still have to have code in the linuxassist.net interface to deal with that code... verification, etc Dominian WildPikachu: FYI, my name is spelled wrong under staff on linuxassist.net hehe its Dominian :P bronze Dominian: the verification mechanism is "trust freenode's verification/auth' system and send messages to identified freenode nicks so only that person sees the information about their account Dominian Its still not as easy as you would think WildPikachu Dominian: you should have access to change it? Dominian WildPikachu: I should? Dominian hrm Dominian WildPikachu: well the instant Dominion becomes available.. I'll group it :P Dominian hrm I can create content Dominian but doens' tlook like I can edit existing content bronze Dominian: in fact, using freenode to send an email to the freenode user is probably the desirable mechanism. Dominian bronze: again, how do you use freenode to send the email? Dominian We don't have access to services WildPikachu bronze: i was thinking about that WildPikachu bronze: if we can get a bot linked to the site's db WildPikachu would be awesome Dominian aye Dominian and have it 'check' with services that a user is registered Dominian but the user would have to specify an email address bronze Dominian: I believe there is a way for any normal IRC user to send a private message to another user, which will go to their email if the receiving user has specified that. Dominian regular users can't seen hidden email Dominian bronze: IF they have.. tat's the point Dominian Don't want to assume they've turned on email memos Dominian cause then you limit your functionality bronze Dominian: if they haven't they get the message as a freenode/IRC private message(PM) so the end is the same Dominian WildPikachu: need to update the authorized bots too.. dircbot is history .. hehe eir is the man now! Dominian If that includes a unique dynamic and temp URL.. sure.. that'd work WildPikachu Dominian: all the ops should have access to change the site :) WildPikachu if not i'll prod rockroach to fix Dominian WildPikachu: Well, I'm logged in now Dominian WildPikachu: and I can create.. but not edit WildPikachu ok, one sec Dominian no worries bronze WildPikachu: what language is the linuxassist wiki code written in? Dominian drupal WildPikachu Drupal atm, php afaik WildPikachu rockroach is the guy that migrated from tikiwiki :), we're seeing how it goes bronze Dominian: is drupal a language or a system? Dominian system WildPikachu cms Dominian but its php afaik bronze k Dominian WildPikachu: Wordpress! Dominian hehe bronze php, eh? well I can wear gloves... :-) Dominian heh Dominian I've been into django lately myself Dominian still don't have my head wrapped around it though bronze WildPikachu: is there any command line level access to the drupal stuff on linuxassist? bronze WildPikachu: or can it be maniplulated by modifying files? bronze Dominian: Django is my personal choice, but it looks like drupal has quite a large installed base. Dominian yep it does Dominian drupal is an old project still going strong bronze WildPikachu: Is the linuxassist drupal on a drupal hosting service-site or on a server that you have more direct access to, and insalled drupal onto? vorian asp ftw :P Dominian heh Dominian vorian: yOu just like to cause trouble don't yah! Dominian how are you vorian ? vorian Dominian: doing good :) * bronze relases an asp in vorian's bed. vorian you? vorian oh noes! bronze heh heh heh WildPikachu bronze: its one of our hosting servers, can do anything we want WildPikachu Dominian: ... WildPikachu [16:45:48] roach: But what was he trying to edit. * WildPikachu shocks the asp in vorian 's bed to make it angry bronze Dominian: does drupal use a database for storing its content? WildPikachu as far as i know, it does WildPikachu see ... i'm very easy what cms we use ... I just spent alot of time editing the content WildPikachu but thats nearly as easy as copy-paste WildPikachu so if someone has a better idea than drupal ... i'm up for it ... if you going to port the data over :) WildPikachu can even setup a vps for it if we need to do anything on the shell side of things rockroach Dominian: Trouble? * bronze sets up vorian on a date with Cleopatra.... she likes snakes...... * vorian pulls out his aspx sword bronze rockroach: are there any command line utilities you can use on the drupal system to update content or administrate the system? rockroach bronze: I know you can use xml-rpc if you're using Drupal as a blog. Not sure about anything else that direction though. bronze rockroach: what db is being used on linuxassist for the content storage? rockroach bronze: mysql bronze rockroach: Is there a specific mysql table for user accounts? Or an APi for adding users? bronze rockroach: just fyi if you dont have scrollback available, we have been discussing the idea of connecting ##linux-nicks with the linuxassist wiki. bronze rockroach: the idea is that freenode's auth/ID verification system can be piggybacked to leverage easy joining at linuxassist's web site
