A job description often lists the education, training, experience, and personal qualities required of people who hold the job being described. A job description is commonly used to list the major functions of a job and to outline the main duties the person in the job should be able to perform in a suitable fashion. Another main function of a job description is to specify the relationship of the job to other jobs in the business. To do this, the job description should have a section that names the supervisor of the job being described and lists the jobs supervised by the person in the job being described. It is important that all jobs be analyzed from time to time because many jobs are likely to change. They change because the duties of the job often change. Some are dropped and other duties are added. If changes in a job occur and the job description is not revised, the job description becomes obsolete because its information is not correct.
