try { String f = sc.readLine(); System.out.println("char=|" + f + "|"); if (f.equals("ö")) System.out.println("Seems OK!"); else System.out.println("Not OK :("); } catch (IOException x) { x.printStackTrace(); } Starting this, and inputting "ö" yields: ö char=|ö| Not OK :( However, if I run the very same program from within Eclipse, or on Linux, it works just fine: ö char=|ö| Seems OK! Anyone know why this happens? I'm guessing it has something to do with the commandprompt on Windows 2000 and maybe locales?
