A custom vHost is a status symbol among IRC users. Having one distinguishes you from the average user; it is a unique badge of “elite-ness” whose sole purpose is to individualize. vHosts are also extremely useful when creating bot administrator commands, as they provide a unique and permanent method of identification that offsets the constant changing of one’s hostmask. I haven’t been part of the SwiftIRC community for long, but I understand the role vHosts play. IRC has recently become a rather large part of my life, and as I become more assimilated into the SwiftIRC community my desire for a vHost continues to increase. I received my vHost on NitrousIRC because I know an IRCop there, and on SeersIRC because I am an operator in an official SeersIRC channel. On SwiftIRC, I am an operator in #RSHelp, in which one out of every two staff members has a custom vHost. When asked how they managed to get one assigned to them, they reply “Because I asked nicely” or “Because I’m friends with this or that IRCop, and they set one for me”. This answer leads to the conclusion that obtaining a custom vHost on any server involves knowing the right people. I am not friends with IRCops -- I don’t have friends in “high places”. Therefore, I come to you with my straightforward (and very much from the heart) request: I want the vHost “hookd@on.foniks.wurkd.4.me” for the same reason anyone wants a vHost -- because they’re fun, useful, and they’re a truly one-of-a-kind status symbol, the likes of which is unobtainable through any other means.
