Yes, we don't have much user feedback. People seemingly prefer bitching 
on unrelated forums about missing this or buggy that, to directing 
these complaints to the project's maintainer. :-( Quite a few people before 
you were having problems with installing mtPaint on Ubuntu - but you 
were the first who've thought of notifying _me_ of those problems. While 
from long-ago forum posts found by Google I knew that the problem 
exists, without your cooperation I couldn't devise a working solution - 
simply because I don't have an Ubuntu install, nor sufficient inclination 
to have one (as you see yourself, Ubuntu isn't a distro suitable for a 
programmer, because of complete lack of necessary tools).
