For the last couple of months a new project based on OpenWrt has been underway, this project calls itself X-Wrt.
X-Wrt advances its goal of making OpenWrt available to a wider range of users by developing packages and pre-built firmware images
They recently released Milestone 2 of new web administration interface, webif^2, which is available for White Russian RC5, RC6, and snapshots of the upcoming 0.9 release. A Kamikaze version is under active development as well, but not yet ready for general use.
