>These are stressful days for me. Now i want to answer to all question to you. The only reason why i not posted immediately to the forum for all the questions is, to avoid a flame-war. > Sussi, I am sorry to hear it has been so stressful for you. I have some suggestions/comments for you below. Perhaps they will be of help. I had actually typed you a very very long (well-thought out) response, but my computer crashed and I lost it all before I was able to send it. This will be a much abbreviated version of what I had tried to send. >I think you have the same approach than me, never to cheat and not to tolerating it. I do not cheat. I never have and never will. But I also know that I cannot control what others do. While I am relatively new to ducati, I have been around bzflag (as an admin) for a couple of years. I know what cheating looks like. And frankly, I haven't seen it at all in any of the league players. > >Since about a year, i have to observe some things happens, what i can not understand. Normally if i see a new move or something else, i ride with the tank as an observer. The reason aren't logical for me to resolve. To talk about every single sign to proof something i can't and won't do because i don't know exactly what it is. But i can thrust my eyes and my feelings. They telling me : currently the reason why a team wins a match in not better teamwork, better dodging or better to be in bzflag, it is ( thats my real meaning) to know better to edit the config, better to deal with driver, better to use network related issues. I think it is essential to have the weapons leveled into the league. That means every change behind of the GUI have to announced to the league. Thats the only way to find back to a fair relation (or what i understand). If I'm wrong and nobody was editing.. to his advantage, than everybody know it is lag, not just a excuse. > I have been watching a lot of players since I joined the league. I see a lot of really amazing moves and also try to learn them. Sometimes, I will just approach the player and ask for help. Other times, I will try to copy them. However, to assume that only config edits, gui edits or mouse changes are all that allow someone to have skills I don't have is unfair. There are many people who put in simply HOURS trying to perfect skills, think up new team play strategies, etc. I look at some of the really amazing players out there, and although I know I will never reach their level of skill, I don't fault them for that or automatically assume it is something that they are doing with their hardware or software. >After some wondering and not found any answers, i started to ask players who are show signs. (I still try to avaid to say that bad word or to accuse) I cant do an intelligent question, if i have to ask for silly stuff. So i was thinking the open and direct way is the best. After a match ( if i ment to seen asome signs) i asked privately “do u cheat?” but i got not a single answer. If he don't a short answer “no” would clear it. But so i don't know. Or he won't answer silly questions? > First, I don't automatically assume anyone is cheating (using the actual word OR by implying it). It is the fastest way to offend someone and end the conversation that I can think of. To ASK someone if they are cheating is terribly rude and offensive. If they are not, they would be offended, just as I was offended when you approached me the other day. Second, While I agree openness is good, it is all in your approach. I don't think you were actually asking what you really wanted to know. You wanted to know what config or mouse changes they had made. But your question, instead, was designed to offend them and make it less likely they would discuss anything with you. I ask people all the time to help me. Most of them have been very gracious. But the difference is in the approach. Might I suggest a more amicable approach - "Hey, I was wondering if you could help me...I'm trying to figure out what config settings work best for me, and was wondering if you'd share your config file". I have had at least five different people who have emailed me their entire configuration file. Several others have given me advice by looking at mine. Third, timing is also an issue. If you approach someone right after a match you've just lost, it make it appear that you are being a bad sport or claiming their victory is only due to their settings or cheating. It is best to ask those questions in a non-antagonistic setting, and at a time when you are not angry or frustrated. Most of my help has been received from doing fun matches, playing on dub public, or just chatting with folks while not even playing. >I had to learn that in the league is a different approach of what is fairness and sportsmanship. The question is: what is regular? Obvious is isn't allowed to change the client itself, what about the config-file and what about the (mouse-)driver. I cannot give you an answer because it is to discus and to find an answer from the league. For me it seems essential to post any hand-made entries in the config-file and every change which could tailing side-effects. If not, over long or short time the best config-editors, not the best team will stay on the top of rank. Hopefully u can understand my position. Only to say open what is changed in bzflag can reestablish thrust to each other. > While I haven't been around the league long, I have spent a lot of time lately reading old forum topics. My observation is that the issue of config settings/gui settings/"mouse enhancements" has been discussed time and time again - with one single result. They are not illegal or cheating, but are permitted. The continual efforts of some to keep bringing this issue up after its been addressed over and over is not good for the league, the players or anything. If the league is to survive, we must get past this controversy and on to the business of playing matches and having fun. I fear that the fun has left the league and may not return unless we, the players, take it upon ourselves to move forward. >I feel guilty, because i lost my faiths about fairness. I tried to use the little tricks which are near the border of ... That wasn't a clean approach and so everybody knows me now as a bad guy. > I know nothing of this, sussi. When I arrived in the league, I knew you only as the guy who shot me a lot! My only real bad experience with you was when you seemed to be calling me a cheater, and when I heard you had openly accused my mates of cheating. >I could solve the my missunderstandings to catay and thonolan. I think thono is still waiting for an answer to his post. So it was time tp apologise for my rude threat them. > >MTC shows a lot of signs which i can't understand. Okay u asking for a sample: How can they vibrate so symmetrically and for what reason doing so? ( has the flame-war now started?) Well, if you are refering to the "jitter" dodge movement sometimes used by Skit, tokimi and others that aren't even on MTC, I can tell you what I know. When I first started on MTC, Skit tried to teach me that move. I'm simply not fast enough to do it well. But I am practicing it, trying to perfect it. The purpose is simple - dodging. It makes you unpredictable to your opponent, and therefore more likely to live longer. >I want before i feel able to forgive or ask for forgivness i want to clear the open topics. >at the end let me say one word, where i find fun in bzflag. It is not to kill, what is in my opinion more slaughtering, it is to get in touch with teamies to defend or capture together the flag. It is some kind of blind understanding. Well, I wil say this one more time, but I leave it up to you. Your accusations of cheating to me and my teammates has caused a lot of hurt feelings. You hurt me when you called me a cheater. You hurt me even more when you indicated that the accusation was based solely on the fact that I had association with someone you don't like. I still believe you owe me, mana, Mikk, Skit and my entire team an apology. One final point. I think that much of the misunderstand we have all experienced in the past and continue to experience may be an issue of language differences. Most of the forums are written in English, which gives me an advantage. But even taking into account those differences, there is a need for niceties. Please, be careful what you say and think about how it sounds. Sincerely, SC
