ns1.dyndns.org Hardware Failure Sunday, January 28, 2007 @ 14:05 On January 27th, at approximately 17:00 GMT, ns1.dyndns.org suffered a major hard drive failure. While our systems have been designed to specifically guard against this, the physical hardware providing this redundancy failed. This had a domino effect through other DynDNS systems, including our update system, WebHop, MyWebHop, Offline, and our website www.dyndns.com. These systems have been intermittently available through the remainder of the afternoon as a result. As of 23:30 GMT, all systems were stabilized. The update system, WebHop, MyWebHop, Offline, and the website began to function normally as of that time. Other DynDNS services, including Custom DNS, Secondary DNS, MailHop, Recursive DNS, and Network Monitoring were not impacted by this incident. We are evaluating all of the causal factors that came into play with this incident and will be taking steps to prevent further incidents of this scale.
