trying arch I think i'd pick the distro i liked best (mine was mepis) and install it dual boot with xp and keep playing with it till it did what I wanted what was the failure uunder mepis (something about hotplug)? * Gerrath (n=Shane_@unaffiliated/gerrath) has joined #mepis i think we could whip it under mepis with a little more tinkering yeah....think it's more to do with the chipset of the wireless device than anything dont think id have luck with arch? lol no sooner then i typed that i ran into conflicts hehehe...either way, I'm sure you'll learn something anyone know how to get suspend working? guess i wont be using arch bull i have something that will likely open a whole can of worms http://daemonizer.de/prism54/wg511/ the 3rd 1 is mine v.3 looking for the longest i thought i had ver 1 dunno about arch. only thing i know a rat's ass about is mepis today your lucky day guess what im doing and we had it up & running. so we were ALMOST there. I'd go back to that point if it was me dal: suspend ALMOST works on this machine. a few bugs. what do you get from yours? hammer: what are you doing? mepis installing LOL soon as i make paritions hehehe make a seperate partition for /home why? I found that useless on here because when you reinstall because of an oops you get all your data and settings back I made only 4. mepis, winxp, linux swap, and data. has worked grat for me I thought so. repartitioned the disk. oopsed. reinstalled. nothing worked. I have reinstalled this one 4 times and my laptop 7 so i said screw it. mepis is going all on its own little partition. klrmto I'm gonna get a broom and dustpan to pick up the pieces of this thing if I don't get it working soon because suspend is ticking you off? i mssed something up man all these violent users what does it do? fail to suspend? fail to come back? how come ubuntu gets it right out of the box the version of ubuntu you ran LIKED your particular harware well suspending from kpowersave the backlight would stay on now it won't even work at all use to be 29553.44/452.40 no suspend2 in the kernel gotta run to the local WallyWorld ... later folks I wouldn't even know where to begin to compile it in now its 29553.21/452.62 i redid it 3 times stupid arch the patches at suspend2.net aren't for my kernel version what is it that is 29553.44/452/40? all was fine till it tried to go arch dal: kernel patches and such are over my head. I'm not that good yet. no idea i only have a 30 gig can you boot mepis live from cd and run qtparted to wipe the drive? or is that what yer trying now? setting swap at 450 cuz my 512 ram is shared klrtmto suspend2 is probably the only way you're gonna get supend working properly I don't know why warren doesn't put it in the kernel by default i use slack for the parition tools for all distros i like the cfisk I'm running mepis 6.0-4 Beta 3 on this lappy and it suspends and comes back, it just borks the sound sometimes and occasionally saMBa * xim010 thinks qtparted is nice never tried cfdisk.... maybe run cfdisk and see if there's a partition left on there from your arch endeavor i dleetd all visibles bah deleted ok and when you try to install mepis... you get which error? booting mepis beta now oh cool not there yet lol everytime i install a linux distro no matter what it is i start off with slack cd to get to the cfdisk tools even if partitions are there i start from scratch each install like i was trying arch so slack 1st cfdisk then shut down and install arch now mepis * francofait (n=francofa@adsl-60-65.37-151.net24.it) has joined #mepis so cfdisk from slack then mepis i'da done it all from mepis. but whatever works. brb. im lost did qparted see a hidden 1gig partition calling it ok then gonna slack again to patch it i'd wipe all partitions, and make what you need with qtparted. then install mepis fresh make sure the wep key's OUT of the router, and do only wireless config things. get that up and running first. then do whatever else you like to mepis. i dont use wep less probs the better good. 1st connect. then add security. I did it that way, and added WEP later now that ive learned about web thats what im gonna do got my original partitions back now ty for the qtparted info came in handy showed me why i lost space is there an easy way to install suspend2? no prob. brb boss calling me. what distro? ./configure then make then make install or ./install file.sh * emss (i=emss@d118-75-188-14.try.wideopenwest.com) has joined #mepis * emss (i=emss@d118-75-188-14.try.wideopenwest.com) has left #mepis ("Kopete 0.12.3 : http://kopete.kde.org") oh boy im going in cicrcles install distro after distro just to end up back to where i started from lol i thought id have luck with slack http://likespecies.pointclark.net:8010 sit back and relax a while bbiab but man after all the forums i seen...theres tons of headaches with slack eww contry country ya know what happens ya play that backwards right? you get all ya lost...your dog your truck your car your house and your woman heh heh ok well when you get mepis up. we'll play with this wireless thing more & get it to where it plugs & unplug correctly if its possible would like to bypass eth0 and use eth1 without having to do a bunch of commands each time i reboot i only used eth0 to get me here with lappy soon as i get my card to do what i want im tossing the cord in storage * contrains (i=contrain@dsl001-161-007.stl1.dsl.speakeasy.net) has joined #mepis * Lauren has quit (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer)) * xpatch (n=bob@adsl-75-33-228-248.dsl.chcgil.sbcglobal.net) has joined #mepis ok booting it hafta keep running off.... boss. be back * hammer_ (n=hammer@S0106000ae445fcc2.wp.shawcable.net) has joined #mepis * xpatch has quit ("Leaving") * dal has quit ("Leaving") you shouldn't have to do command each time i did before when i got it running 1st time only i didnbt know i had till i tried to connect with it * magenpie (n=magpie@71.80.207.31) has joined #mepis work is keeping me too damn busy..... where are you now? ndiswrapper? havent done anything yet its herre tho * hammer_ just taking a little breather it's plugged into ethernet wire? * kmaynard has quit ("G'bye") yup has 3 internets on it k cool. i'll b back then (since yer taking a breather) gotta finish reinstalling xp on a work laptop that died.... But not much... :P have something for u that will liekly help ya with me the_hammer: Oh? http://daemonizer.de/prism54/wg511/ i have the v3 This candle is way too strong. I think I'm giong to hurl. I didn't realize they were this strong. With the wg511 v3 Netgear startet to use Conexant's isl3886 chipset. This is generally the same one as the isl3880, but with limited memory. It's also known as softmac. Because of this the fullmac firmwire (the one for v1 and v2) doesn't fit there anymore so there's a new firmware which leaves almost all work to the CPU and the driver. Because of this this card doesn't work with the prism54 driver. You have to use the islsm driver o r ndiswrapper. be back. boss again. rmmod ndiswrapper;modprobe islsm That says to use islsm, not prism54. root@1[NetGear]# rmmod ndiswrapper;modprobe islsm root@1[NetGear]# right thats for my card there showing ya cuz ya know what u doin I do? Wow... Really? lol :P well we all know i dunno what im doin lol LOL Check iwconfig eth1 NOT READY! ESSID:off/any Nickname:"default" nick hammer2 * hammer_ is now known as hammer2 I really wish I knew what to do with these blasted .arm files.. its in lib/firmware didnt do anything to it when i had it working yesterday Uh-huh. Well, once it's in, reboot and modprobe islsm (make sure ndiswrapper isn't on) ok ill reboot now * hammer2 has quit ("Leaving") 1st 2 things i did was the ndiswrapper ten the copy to lib/firmware yesterday we were trying the prisim drivers my fault cuz i was told my card was v1 Yeah, but prism54 doesn't work on the v3. Yeah. So, we need islsm. yup (islsm gets in the way of ndiswrapper for me, so I have it blacklisted) But it should work for you. something bout hotplugs to has to be black listed or something BRB k the_hammer, I do the "eww country" for a girl I work with. lol * hammer_ (n=hammer@S0106000ae445fcc2.wp.shawcable.net) has joined #mepis well that was freaky Back. couldnt connect so opened up the net thing and then had to fiddel around and got connected yer kiddin.... woohoo! root@2[hammer]# dammit. be back boss hammer_: You got it? no thats for wire connection Oh, rats. ya lsmod | grep ndis nick hammer2 * hammer_ is now known as hammer2 root@2[hammer]# lsmod | grep ndis ndiswrapper 148436 0 root@2[hammer]# rmmod ndiswrapper root@2[hammer]# rmmod ndiswrapper root@2[hammer]# Keep it up 'till lsmod | grep ndis has no results. lsmod | grep ndis do again?
