I missed the "in what way did this improve when moved in to core" part
of your email when writing my reply.


The major improvement was it allowed us to use  plugin a_is_active
rather than a_active_plugins on display which made the loading system
a lot simpler. It also allowed a single plugin to be easily dropped in
and loaded.

Beryl plugin load order isn't user specified like Compiz.
