So I've pretty much been asking everyone what to do and everyone has a different take on this which will probably be the case here but I'm going to ask anyways. I have two job offers right now going and I am having the absolute toughest time picking one which is driving me crazy (to say the least). Job "A" is with a very very large company that is all over the USA, has the best server equipment, routing equipment, etc. money can buy. Their server room is amazing on a raised tile floor and looks just like the server room on the old IBM commercials with the brain child (geeks will probably remember this). Their NOC has about 30 PCs in it, 3 50" plasma TVs displaying big brother and is just the most modern network setup I've ever seen. I will also have lots of potential to grow with this company and the guy who runs all their server side systems has told me that he would train me to become a junior linux admin and grow from there (though this wouldn't be my primary position, I'd be working in the NOC). Sounds great right? Well, the problem is that the job is only paying $32k/yr with full benefits, a good 401k program, etc. It would also be the 2PM to 10PM shift which I'm fine with as I like those hours. Job "B" is a much smaller company with an IDS product that has 12 employees but a 160% increase in profits each year. I would be doing level 1 tech support for the product and have been promised that with my linux experience, I would quickly move up the ladder into a higher level tech support job with potential for other options of growth as the company grows. This company provides an IDS for several banks across the country, school districts, and city governments and I believe it to be a good product from what I know about it. The pay is much better, in the mid $40k range and has full benefits though I don't know about any profit sharing or 401k program. The company has been around 4 years so it's relatively new which is either a great thing or a bad thing (I've yet to decide which). My issue with this company is 1) I'd be doing pretty menial work and I'm worried about the company not doing well over the years as it hasn't been around very long. So, after seeing job "A" today, I was stoked about it, lots of flash, looks like a company out of a movie and is just sweet all around and thought that I should pick that one since it's been around quite a while and has lots of growth potential but then the president of company "B" called me up tonight and has me thinking about that one again. He left me a voicemail telling me how hard it is to find quality tech people and that it's one of those things where when someone who's the right person walks through the door, everyone knows it and I'm the one who will help take the business far over the years. Company "B" feels like a family inside and everyone is incredibly friendly and I like that. Everyone at company "A" was very friendly too and thought really highly of my linux skills, etc. so I'm just stuck. What do you guys think? (also, I'm sorry if this is a bit of a ramble but it's been driving me nuts).
