I have done the install accoring to this howto: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Gentoo_Install_on_Software_RAID - everything went great no errors. i compiled my kernel with genkernel and rebooted, thinking it was a perfect install, i got this error: ================= Detected real_root as a md device. Setting up the device node... Determining root device... Mounting root... mount: Mounting /dev/md3 on /newroot failed: Invalid argument !! Could not mount specified ROOT, try again !! The root block device is unspecified or not detected. Please specify a device to boot, or "shell" for a shell... ================= i searched the forums and got to this post: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-548818-highlight-genkernel+raid.html so i recompiled my kernel manual way, and still the new server wont boot up, the tech guy forgot to give me the error so i am just checking my steps now, #### TEC STUFF#### .config, raid stuff: CONFIG_RAID_ATTRS=m CONFIG_BLK_DEV_3W_XXXX_RAID=m CONFIG_SCSI_AACRAID=m CONFIG_MEGARAID_NEWGEN=y CONFIG_MEGARAID_MM=m CONFIG_MEGARAID_MAILBOX=m CONFIG_MEGARAID_LEGACY=m CONFIG_MEGARAID_SAS=m #
