Notebook in question: Toshiba Protege M200 OS I want on it: gNewSense (www.gnewsense.org) ______________________________________________________________________________ Equipment I have: >Protege M200 (has no CD/floppy drives, but it does have an SD card slot and a PCMCIA slot, curently has xp tablet edition on it) >256MB SD card (works fine, can boot from this when it has a floppy disk image on it) >1gb CF card (Could be used to store contents if gNewSense CD on, so that I can install gNewSense) Not sure if I can point a floppy disk image to this card. >1GB USB memory key (Could be used to store contents if gNewSense CD on, so that I can install gNewSense) Not sure if I can point a floppy disk image to this device. >CF card reader which plugs into the notebook's PCMCIA slot (The floppy disk image detects this, but refuses to boot from it, saying "Can't find knopppix file system, sorry" >External USB2 DVD+/-RW drive (could be used to install gNewSense from) >DSL 50MB live BizCard CD: This is the floppy disk image stored on the SD card that the notebook is booting from. DL it here: http://www.xmission.com/~bmidgley/m200/bootcard28.gz (More info here: http://www.xmission.com/~bmidgley/m200/) >Digital camera that could be used to put floppy disk/boot images on the SD card (basically using it as a USB card reader) (Or I could boot into xp on the tablet PC and access the SD card via the built-in card reader) ______________________________________________________________________________ Problem: The M200 has no CD or floppy drive to boot from, however it has an SD card slot. *However*, the BIOS cannot boot from an SD card, so instead toshiba decided to let the SD card slot emulate a floppy drive. With this, I can boot from a floppy disk image stored on an SD card. Booting from the emulated floppy drive/SD card is OK, the problem is that I can't get the floppy disk image to boot from the CF card, saying "Can't find knopppix file system, sorry". The CF card has a FAT32 partition on it. If I can find another floppy disk image to boot from that would allow installation from USB/PCMCIA, that would do the job.
