[13:37] this isn't explicitly stated in the rules, but i just want to make sure before i upload anything... [13:38] is it alright if i upload a game "soundtrack" ripped from the sound test menu of the game via line-in? [13:39] I have a feeling that would be kind of transcoded.. [13:40] no : / [13:40] maybe if the game used prerendered music with lossy compression [13:40] but i'm talking about a game with synthesized music [13:41] I'm sorry, you'll have to be a little more explanatory. I'm not used to the concept of ripping the title track of a game from the menu.. [13:41] that's actually not what i mean [13:42] you know how a lot of games have a sound test option where you can listen to all the music? [13:42] i'm just going through it and recording all of it [13:42] i think "upload commercial albums" is the rule of thumb [13:42] i would say not really, because soundboard recordings are allowed [13:42] i think it might be deemed kind of along the lines of "audience recordings" [13:42] typically game rips are 128 or lower [13:43] skizm: What game is this? If it's chip music, you can probably emulate it... [13:43] Especially if on an earlier system than next-gen [13:43] it's for ds [13:43] Ah. [13:43] is the sound track not commercially available? [13:43] Don't think they have a format for that yet. [13:43] Steadman if it was i wouldn't upload it but i don't think it will be [13:43] Uplift_awaYz not yet. [13:43] ah this might help you skizm [13:43] http://oink.me.uk/forums.php?action=viewtopic&topicid=68058&page=p524323#p524323 [13:43] there's an itunes release of like, some of the songs [13:43] but it's itunes only [13:44] yeah that would answer my question but i don't think it applies here [13:44] since the music is synthesized by the game [13:45] i'll see what the bitrate/spectral looks like i guess [13:45] skizm:: when you say synthesizd, do you mean generated? [13:46] I think this is something that would qualify as a user made release, which we generally don't allow here. True, there are SBD releases here but those were released elsewhere first and are generally widely distributed before ever making it here. [13:46] We definately wouldn't allow a game ost made from various tracks on compilations, for example. [13:47] i agree with that, but it's not like i arbitrarily decided what to put on it, it's just all the tracks from the sound test menu :) [13:47] okay thanks [13:47] Uplift_awaYz yes, it's generated in realtime by the game [13:47] ah, so i see where the complications are. [13:48] er, maybe you're thinking of something i didn't think of at first [13:48] Someone making a soundtrack from compilations isn't putting arbitrary stuff on either. [13:48] i don't mean the game creates music on the fly, they're pre-composed [13:48] If its generated by the game in realtime, then i guess that means its gonna be the same as soundboard recording, i.e. not going to be transocde [13:48] well it looks like transcode isn't my only concern here [13:48] unfortunately
