With the introduction of social networking via the internet with such sites as MySpace and Bebo I very quickly noticed a trend that, to me, is quite worrying. The two contrasting subjects can bring up many arguements throughout a variety of groups around the world. Many people see the internet as a “global organisation” where communication is made easier while others see the internet as a place for information and believe communcation should be left to real life. When you try to mix the two that’s where complications can occur. Many people at my school using such social networking sites for means of communcation outside of school which, in my opinion, is fine. However, complications can arrise when the two sides meet. Say you “added” someone on your friends list on one of these sites and started chatting to them. All is well so far. But then, when you go back into school, you never talk to them; you rarely even see them; you might not even know if they recognise you. This is what worries me. To some degree, it is a form of social exclusion. Your internet “life”, where all is well and you get the chance to chat with people you normally don’t, can be shattered when real life enters the equation. This is something that needs sorted fast. A mate of mine came up with this quote which I believe sums it all up in one sentence: “In life, one cannot speak, on the internet, one cannot cant”
