Right as i said you have to colonise the commands, or at least think of it in that way. So you get server commands, services commands. You need to understand what bot of them do. It's not too hard once you get in the swing of things. First things first --Server commands-- Once you have opened your server first and then the anope services afterwards thats when you can start using everything. I have set you as root-server access which is basicly everything you can do. When you want to close down your server to SAVE everything that has happened like lets say someone registeres a nick, if you dont shut the anope services and save the data obviosly everything that has happened in that session since you turned on the services would have been lost. So finally at last do you want to know how to do it ! Though so /os shutdown Lets brake this down into little chunks like i will be doing all the way through the tutorial. The 'OS' stands for OPERSERV. Operserv is one of the services serves which is used to enhance the features of the server. After you told the serve to use 'OS' and then use he command in the server SHUTDOWN which also saves the database before doing so. Simple enough. Lets not talk about the operserv for now. Chanserv, nickserv, hostserv and botserv are the four services servers that the users that connect to the Unrealircd will be able to use. They will not be able to use any other servers unless someone grants them it. By someone it's called a IRCop. IRCop is someone that has been placed inside your servers configuration to have access to use whatever commands you have placed in the flags column. *Chanserv -> cs *Hostserv -> hs *Botserv -> bs *Nickserv -> ns Try typing any one of the services above with help after any of them. It does not matter by what syntax you use by syntax i mean you can type /botserv which would be the same as /bs or /msg botserv. So you looked at each of the users services server with help after it and read the commands.say you type /cs help and the first command you see is REGISTER. What you would so is either type /cs help register to get the services to send back a notice on how to register a channel on chanserv. Try using /cs help (By command i mean one of the commands that '/cs help' gave to you). Look what each of them do. By now hopefully after looking you should have noticed what each of them done like chanserv is the services which edit the options and registrations and orders/restrictions of channels. Hostserv is for a thing called a vhost. To explain this you need to know what a hostmask is. A ISP is short for your internet service providor which in your case is virgin media. When you sign up for your isp you get 2 things assigned to your router which is individual to each connection on the internet. Also a individual hostmask assigned with your ip. Since you obviosly dont want other users that connect to see everyones hostmask your unrealircd server will automaticly change it to something like this: *!*@rad-F5C01CF8. That was a example of a hostmask produced by your server. The syntax of a hostmask goes like this: *!*@* OR DosKey!DosKey2@rad-F5C01CF8 Well how come you may ask that they are both hostmasks. Well a * is a wildcard (Google it). Which means you dont have to put the exact details in. Before the ! means the nickname of the user and after the ! and before the @ is the username that you have got. On xchat open on the top right xchat>network list> then the username part is the part which goes inbetween the two symbols. As i explained before after the @ is the network hostmask produced by the server which if you have not got a vhost will look something like rad-F5C01CF8. (Please note that the rad-F5C01CF8 is not the actual hostmask given by your ISP. type /whois hyperthread. What a whois does is asks the server for information about the user that you place after the /whois. Since you are admin you will be able to see the hostmasks assigned to the users that connect to the servers hostmasks that has been assigned to them by thier ISP. When you do a whois if you are opered you will see something that normall users wouldnt. * [Hyperthread] is connecting from *@localhost 127.0.0.1 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ That is the part. That isn't your actual hostmask assigned by your isp because localhost and 127.0.0.1 means you are connecting from the same computer the servers are run on. * [Hyperthread] (joanne@rad-F5C01CF8): joanne wood ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Lets get you to assign your very own vhost to yourself as other users would see you. /hs help ^^ Do that first obviously Use the = Whatever you want your vhost to be it should look something like i.rule.everyone.com Or whatever you want it to be. The syntax of the vhost must have more than two dots and contan more than 9 bytes (Or characters). /hs request ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Once you have done that command type /hs waiting. What that command does is show you everyones vhosts that has not been approved by admins yet. You should see your nick. Now what you have to do it type /hs activate (In your case it's hyperthread). Now you should see something which looks like this -HostServ- vHost for hyperthread has been activated If so what you have to do is log out of the server then log back in. Or just close xchat then open it. You need to do this because the next time you log in to nickserv (I have applied Xchat to log you into nickerv and oper you automaticly). Is when the vhost will actually be activated to your account. Now you should see something that looks like this: -NickServ- Password accepted - you are now recognized. -HostServ- Your vhost of 1.rule.everyone.com is now activated. Now do another whois on yourself and you should see * [Hyperthread] (joanne@1.rule.everyone.com): joanne wood So now it's not just a boring hostmask assigned automaticly by the server. Also when other users see you enter a chanell they will see this now * Hyperthread (joanne@1.rule.everyone.com) has joined #help Instead of this * Hyperthread (joanne@rad-F5C01CF8) has joined #help So remember to keep checking the /hs waiting to see the list of users that have requested a vhost and if you approve of it just type /hs activate . Simple enough. --Operator user modes and flags and snomasks-- Lets start with the user modes of channels and the access lists of channels. If you didn't know this already you will know it now, normall users that has registered can create channels on the server which automaticly gives them +qo (+qo on a channel means founder access which basicly lets them do anything with thier channels. They can put someone on what we call a access list. What a access list is, is a list which has on each line which level each user has been placed on it (Please note, Not normall users just people who will automaticly get voiced, Halfop'ed, Op'ed, Protected op'ed.). The difference between voiced, Halfop'ed, Op'ed, Protected op'ed is that each of them are going up in order of importance. As you should realise though that the founder +qo of the chanell can add/edit/delete/block these members and can share the channels master password with someone they trust so that they also have founder access level to a channel. Reember since you are the Network administrator and the services administrator you can not just add/edit/del/block users on the access list or the nickserv you can also add/edit/delete/block/ban_channels/Ban_users_From_Server/ You can even set yourself as the original founder of the channel and block the users. Do not abuse your IRCop status paul otherwise i will take you offline.
