Here is a small timeline Ive created about the Red Sox over the years.
1901 - Cy Young, a right handed pitcher, spent almost 20 years in the major leagues. He was the only pitcher in baseballs first 100 years to win 500 games, including three no-hit shutouts and a perfect game. Today, there is a yearly award given out named the Cy Young Award.
1908 - Fenway Park, built on its own land in the Fenway section of Boston, moved the Red Sox from the Huntington Avenue Grounds. The Stadium is still used to this date
1914 - Babe Ruth was acquired by Boston
1918 - The Sox won the World Series, for the last time in 86 years
1933 - Tom Yawkey took over the Boston franchise
1939 - Ted Williams, considered by many the greatest hitter to ever play, was acquired by the Red Sox
1941 - Ted Williams went .406 in his third year
1942 - Johnny Pesky started his career with the Red Sox, and he still sits in the dugout every game as part of the Red Sox staff
1960 - Carl Yastremski, a very well-known outfielder, was signed by the Red Sox
1978 - Bucky Dent hit a three-run homer in the 1978 A.L.C.S., tearing any faithful Boston fans heart to pieces
1983 - Carl Yastrzemskis Last Game, known as Yaz Day
1997 - The Red Sox made a risky move in signing Nomar Garciaparra, who turned into a superstar right away. The shortstop won the Rookie of the Year award by hitting .306 with 122 homers, 209 hits, 44 doubles, 11 triples, 30 homers, 98 RBIs, and 22 stolen bases
2001 - The Red Sox signed the slugger that still plays for the sox today, Manny Ramirez.
2004 - A season that will surely live on in any Red Sox fans heart forever. The season when the swept the first series in the playoffs, against the Angels. Then in the next series, the sox fell behind 3 games to none, a ditch that they could seamingly not climb out of, until they won the next game. There was sill hope, and the next game was theirs too! They won the three after that, and were crowned A.L.C.S champions! Never before had a team came back from 3 games to none! In the world series, the sox swept the Cardinals! The Red Sox won the World Series for the first time in 86 years!
The Red Sox radio broadcaster, Joe Castiglione, announced
Foulke to the set, the 1-0 pitch, here it is, swing and a ground ball stabbed by
Foulke, he has it, he underhands to first, and the Boston Red Sox are the world
champions, for the first time in 86 years, the Red Sox have won baseballs world
championship, can you believe it?
