>Shane, >Somehow these people got my e-mail. I’m not a fan of matching sites like this one, especially >for SBIR or tech transfer. The devil’s always in the details with this type of thing and there >are lots of details that really matter before a successful project happens. As a very >experienced tech transfer person told me a long time ago, “the first sign that they don’t know >what they’re doing is when they come around to inventory our technologies and create a web >portal…. He is right. Creating a “we are here” site isn’t a good sign of a highly technical company. >Shane, you probably should monitor the DoD SBIR website, see >http://www.acq.osd.mil/sadbu/sbir/solicitations/index.htm The next date of interest is May 1 >when they release the 2006.2 presolicitation, though we probably can identify some of the topics >before then if we have a specific project in mind. Before then, we should talk about specific >projects you may have in mind; they may or may not fit with SBIR, DoD, or other avenues. We also >have to consider the bid costs (around $10k or so) and risk relative to the potential gain (a >phase I SBIR project for $100k – Yes, I know they say $850k, that’s another one of those pesky >details.. --). There is a great opportunity here for the right type of project; so far I have >not heard one described, especially not one that outweighs the advantage we will have under the >8a program. I know Andrew and I are the most technical people in the company and can develop a myriad of products based on top of our skills. I was hoping that wouldn’t be a limitation as to who should be finding SBIR possibilities. We don’t have meetings on these kind of things with you and Ron on a regular basis, nor do Andrew and I monitor what kind of opportunities are available for us to go after since we are for the most part handling one emergency after another at this point. My day to day duties for the last two years have been to maintain TDX’s communications infrastructure while being overwhelmed with emergencies like we are having right now with our sat television feeds. I need assistance from you as our business developer to help TDXNet via myself and Andrew discover potential SBIR avenues that match or challenge our core competencies. The DOD SBIR website is a good list for us to all get very familiar with, however its going to take me a while to adjust into reading, hopefully I will get somewhere on this by Friday and we can have some sort of discussion basis for some SBIR topics.
