GDC is alive.  Recently, may people have become interesting in helping 
out.  I will be putting the code on sourceforge soon so the development 
can be more open -- together with my mile-long TODO list.

It is unlikely GDC will become an official part of GCC anytime soon.  
The sticking point is the copyright of the DMD front end code.
