Joshua Owoc 5-4-07 Pd.5 Lab #14 Organic Models Purpose: To create structural diagrams and models of 13 different families of organic compounds. Materials: Orbital Model Kit Procedure: Construct 13 organic models of the 13 organic compounds assigned to us by use of the orbital model kit. Data, Observations, & Diagrams: See attached. Calculations: N/A Analysis of Results: Organic chemistry is the chemistry of living organisms, they must contain carbon which makes 4 bonds (tetra hedral). The elements most commonly found are [C,H,O,N]. There are 2 general kinds of groups: Hydrocarbon and Carbon-Hydrogen-Oxygen (CHO). The Hydrocarbon group is consisted of Alkanes, Alkenes, and Alkynes. Alkanes contain all single bonds between carbon atoms, it is a saturated compound. Alkenes contain 1 double bond between 2 carbon atoms. Alkynes contain 1 triple bond between 2 carbon atoms. Alkenes and Alkynes are both unsaturated compounds. The naming system for the main chain of carbons 1-10 is meth, eth, prop, but, pent, hex, hept, oct, non, dec. The suffixes for the compounds are ane, ene, yne, anol, ether, anal, anone, anoic acid, propanoate anamine anamide.
