user Chris has entered room analyst Courtney_ has entered room Courtney_> Hi Chris. Welcome to Sony Online Support. I’m Courtney. Please allow me a moment to review your concern. Courtney_> Thanks for waiting, Chris. I'm sorry that the Computer is turning off after booting to Windows. I’ll be happy to assist you with this. Chris> thanks Courtney_> Are you getting any error messages? Chris> No, everything boots normally but then it just shuts off - no warning Chris> It has even done this when I was in the BIOS setup so it has nothing to do with the OS Chris> When it does power off I can still see some lights on the back for network link so I don't think it is the power supply either. Courtney_> Does the Computer restart continually? Chris> no, it does not restart at all. It just powers down. Chris> To get it to boot again I have to unplug it and let it sit for a minute or two and then I can power it back on Courtney_> Have you made any Hardware or Software changes since it last worked normally? Chris> nothing has changed on the PC Courtney_> Chris, in that case please reset the BIOS to it's setup default and then restore the Computer to an earlier date when the Computer worked normally. Courtney_> I would like to forward a link to a page where you can view the information to reset the BIOS to it's setup default. Courtney_> When you receive the link please click on it to open the page and let me know if you are able to view it. Courtney_> http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/autoresponsev4.asp?id=105377 Chris> I got the link and can view it Courtney_> Let me forward another link where you can view the information to restore the Computer to an earlier time using the System Restore feature. Let me know when you're there. Courtney_> http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/autoresponsev4.asp?id=170677 Chris> The defaults have been loaded but it powered off again during Windows XP boot Courtney_> Chris, in that case please try restarting the Computer in Safe Mode and restore the Computer to an earlier time using the System Restore feature. Courtney_> It should resolve the issue. Courtney_> Let me forward another link where you can view the information to start the computer in Safe Mode. Let me know when you're there. Courtney_> http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/autoresponsev4.asp?id=170681 Chris> The PC also powers down when in the BIOS setup - this has nothing to do with Windows at all Courtney_> Chris, please try restarting the Computer in Safe Mode and then restore the Computer to an earlier time using the System Restore feature. Chris> I can't get the PC to stay on even in safe mode so I can't run the system restore. Windows is not even loaded when in the BIOS setup so how would that change anything? Chris> I just had the PC on and in the BIOS setup. After about 3 minutes it shut off on me. Courtney_> Chris, in that case please try performing the steps when the Computer can be accessed after unplugging. Chris> I unplugged the PC and let it sit. I then plugged it back in and turned it on. I hit the F8 key to get into the Windows boot screen. I selected safe mode and then selected the OS to boot (only one listed - Windows XP Home.) Before I could hit enter to boot it shut off Chris> I can't get into safe mode to do a system restore Courtney_> In that case please try performing a System Recovery to check whether it resolves the issue. Courtney_> Performing a complete System Recovery will erase all the data in the computer and will restore the computer back to its factory settings, this will reinstall the preinstalled Operating System, Applications and the original Drivers. Chris> This issue is hardware related - not software. This is why it will power off while in the BIOS setup. This has nothing to do with Windows XP at all. This happens even in the BIOS setup. I have said all this several times. It has to be hardware related. Courtney_> I would like to forward a link to a page where you can view the information to perform a system recovery using the VAIO Recovery Wizard. Courtney_> When you receive the link please click on it to open the page and let me know if you are able to view it. Courtney_> http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/autoresponsev4.asp?id=303787
