I would like the team to go back to Teamspeak and I'll list the variety of reasons why it's better for the team and clan to do so.

Ventrilo although touted as a better clan voip client is actually not better, in fact it's worse and here's why.

1. Sensitivity for those using voice activation is horrible. A numerical number to adjust sensitivity instead of a slider bar or even automatic calibration. Teamspeak does this much better. Ventrilo does it so horribly that they might as well not even include a sensitivity option at all.

2. Latency - I'm not sure whoever said the latency was better in Ventrilo but they are incorrect. This was the major reason why we moved to Ventrilo. Now that we've all had fair experience with it we know latency is no better than Teamspeak. In fact in some cases it's worse. The reason that people echo more often than not is due to a mic/speaker combination not latency. Though most of us know the difference the latency is not better in Vent.

3. When a new user joins it uses speech to text by default. Now that might not such a bad thing if the speech doesn't completely garble out anyone talking at the same time. Yes, you can turn it off but Teamspeak offers about the same feature and with a pretty female voice.

4. It's a paid service. We have a free Teamspeak server that Gerdawg said he will continue to provide. Instead of paying money for a Vent server how about using that to make our server 100 tick or make it 30,40,50 man instead. Hell, maybe even setup another server for whatever purposes. Point is why pay for an inferior voip service when you can have a superior service for free.

5. Alienation - It's obvious that by going to a private service we've further alienate and already distant team of Q3 players. They haven't had an active team for a while. For them just being in the same room with an active team makes them feel a part of the clan. We just lost a long time member who was always playing Quake alone but was ok with that because he wasn't in the teamspeak server by himself. Since moving to Vent that's all that's he done and I'm sure you realize how quickly that gets old. So he left. Going to Ventrilo has effectively divided an already divided clan. Our Quake 3 guys are great people just like our DoD:S team. They are in limbo trying to cope with a dead game and hanging onto the golden memories of victory and teamwork. They have trouble letting go of the best FPS game ever. They are still part of this clan even if the Q3 team is jetisoned/removed/deleted in the future. The DoD:S team are not the only people in our clan and community to think about.

6. No Vent status from the website. It's absolutely impossible to check the status of vent unless you have shell access to the hosting computer. Unlike teamspeak which has HTTP, UDP, and TCP support. This was the original reason of why we went with Teamspeak over Ventrilo. It's easier to get those elusive internet visitors to join if they can see that we're actively chatting/gaming through voip. TS has the ability to password channels too for scrims/matches so people don't drop into an active scrim.

As you can plainly see. The reasons for Teamspeak heavily outweigh the reasons to continue to use Ventrillo. Please, save money and switch back to Teamspeak for the good of the clan.
