howdy- yesterday i made some changes to the "vfixpermissions" script. it turns out there was a typo in two of the new lines, and it was making things worse instead of fixing them. so if you've downloaded "vfixpermissions" within the past few days, make sure you download the newer version as soon as possible. the newest version is dated 2007-06-23. thanks to w0ls0n for forwarding me an IRC transcript from somebody who was affected by the bug, and somebody who apparently has a bigger attitude than i've ever had, and who decided to point out what a horrible script it was, line by line... of course my response is basically "okay, so you found a bug. help me make it better instead of just standing there bitching about it like an arrogant prick." and it's like the bug that david found in the combined patch earlier. i don't claim to be perfect- i know that i'm *good*, but i'm not perfect. if anybody can find problems with my stuff- scripts, patches, web pages, or whatever- PLEASE let me know so i can fix it. you've all seen how i am about acknowledging peoples' help and suggestions. i'm not doing this to try and make myself feel better- i'm doing it to try and provide a useful service for people, and if somebody else has a good idea, i give credit where credit is due and i use their ideas to make my scripts, patches, and web pages better. just don't be an arrogant prick about it, that doesn't help anybody. and yes, it may sound hypocritical- me, who jumps people about things like top-posting and HTML email and asking dumb questions... just remember that there is a difference between asking a question which we've all seen a hundred times because you didn't bother to google for it first, and reading far enough into the code to find what may or may not be a bug. one shows that you're lazy and/or stupid, while the other shows just the opposite. -------------------------------------------- John. Let me say that I do appreciate all of your effort. Especially your patch and elegant run scripts. That said, I am not sure your latest vfixpermissions is doing what it's supposed to do. It removes the executable permissions from everything in the ./bin directory. blackadder:/home/vpopmail/bin# ls -l total 1872 -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 66068 Jun 22 21:55 clearopensmtp -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 73388 Jun 22 21:55 dotqmail2valias -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69236 Jun 22 21:55 vaddaliasdomain -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 73332 Jun 22 21:55 vadddomain -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69236 Jun 22 21:55 vadduser -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 73388 Jun 22 21:55 valias -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69236 Jun 22 21:55 vchangepw -rws--s--x 1 vpopmail vchkpw 76424 Jun 22 21:55 vchkpw -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69492 Jun 22 21:55 vconvert -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69236 Jun 22 21:55 vdeldomain -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 74252 Jun 22 21:55 vdelivermail -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69236 Jun 22 21:55 vdeloldusers -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 66708 Jun 22 21:55 vdeluser -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69236 Jun 22 21:55 vdominfo -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69236 Jun 22 21:55 vipmap -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 66484 Jun 22 21:55 vkill -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 66228 Jun 22 21:55 vmkpasswd -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 77428 Jun 22 21:55 vmoddomlimits -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 73332 Jun 22 21:55 vmoduser -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69236 Jun 22 21:55 vpasswd -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 70644 Jun 22 21:55 vpopbull -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 94228 Jun 22 21:55 vpopmaild -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 63576 Apr 7 2004 vqmaillocal -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 69236 Jun 22 21:55 vsetuserquota -rw-r--r-- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 70580 Jun 22 21:55 vuserinfo With a "chmod u+x *" I got things right. (it is, however, a very good companion after you've spent all day walking around an amusement park with your brother and his kids, like i just did.) i just fixed it, and TESTED it this time. sorry for the trouble. - Show quoted text - ---------------------------------------------------
