Tuan Do Ms. Sarnoski English CP - 1 30 September 2007 7th Grade Soccer Game It was a cloudy Saturday morning in November, when I had my biggest play of the season. I had just arrived at the Sports Complex; all pumped up and ready to go. I took in a deep breath of the fresh crisp air and felt the as if victory was ours already. Slowly, I began to make my way toward the team bench to set down my small black bag. Upon doing so, I noticed the coach calling me so, I hurried things up to lead my beastly team for warm-ups. For warm-up, we did many stretches and vigorous plays. Before we knew it, it was time to start the game. The referee explained all the rules, checked our cleats and shin guards and called the team captains for the coin toss. The kick off was soon underway, our team started off with the ball but it was shortly taken away by Galaxy, the other team. During the first half, both teams took plenty of shots and had minor fouls. Prior to the half ending, we managed to sneak in two amazing goals from outside the 18. One goal was by one of our offensive mid, Ryan, he blasted one through the defense that slipped through of the goalie’s tiny hands. The other goal was by Tom off of a corner kick that I curved toward the goal. Seeing him score from my kick made me even more confident that this game was ours. Second half came, and we played a more defensive and relaxed game. The coach took out some starters and replaced them with the bench warmers. Not long after making this change, the score was 2 to 1 and then 2 to 2. Coach then substituted the bench warmers and put the starters back in and told us to step up our game. When we stepped onto the field I noticed that my teammates’ faces looked like they felt that we are about to lose and all the hard work was for nothing. With the clock winding down to 45 seconds left, we felt as if we could only tie. But, then we get another chance, the referee calls a handball on the other team just over the half field line. Our biggest and strongest team member, Manny, takes the indirect kick and sends it up the side line to me. That’s when I dribbled through the defense with my fancy moves and faked out the awful goalie. This caused him to hit his head on the steel post, and allowed me to score the winning goal. After scoring, I was congratulated by my team, the coach, and parents. While being congratulated, the coach and parents’ of the goalie, rushed to his side. They then started to dispute my goal and said that they really won. In minutes the issue was resolved, since there coach acted in place as the referee, they couldn’t say anything because coaches were not allowed on the field. In the end, we won the game by out playing the other team.
