I just got back from spending an hour and a half at the DHL depot, waiting to pick up my package. when I called the magic number (1-800-DHL-HATES-YOU), the nice guy on the phone said "its still at the depot", so I said "I'll be by and pick it up!". His reponse "sure, we'll put it by the front desk for you". So I get to the depot, and it takes about 15 minutes for the guy to deal with the other angry customers in front of me. my turn. "let me find it." /me starts Jeopardy Music. He gets to deal with a bunch of other angry customers, many of whom have the same delivery guy. so, after an hour, he finds one of the packages! (amazing, ain't it) so one of them gets to escape this purgatory. after he deals with the rest of the customers that have wandered in while I'm waiting, I ask if he can check the manifest of the truck in my area, so I can see if I'm just jerking off, or if this is actually still at the depot and they're incompetent. so apparently what happened, is that they are using non-union drivers today (???) and they don't know how to scan the packages when they put them on the truck. so the system said "still at depot", but the manifest said "on truck to deliver". at 7pm, he was still out to deliver, and wasn't getting back to the depot until 8. so the moral of the story is: don't use DHL, and I'll be calling the depot to make sure he is touching the box before I pick it up.
