I work at a school where right now we have about 130= machine running linux.
We do authentication using nis and moutn hom directories using NFS.

NFS is a bugger..too many problems.

I noticed that On etch using the Places Menu
Places > Connect To Server

one can mount remote locations using the GUI.

I tried mounting my home dir off the server using ssh and the gui and its was pretty neat and QUICK and SECURE

We would now like to automate this or something.

We will use pam module to create temp home dirs for nis users and maybe a script can be setup to mount the home dirs.


Now what I want to know how i can set up this script?

The GUI used..what is its backend? What does it run to mount the drives using ssh?

Please help?
