Dear sir/madam, Good day to you, first of all: Let us introduce ourselves. We are enthusiastic developers of the Rockbox open source DAP firmware. All Rockbox developers are unpaid volunteers and our firmware is released for free under the GNU GPL. Our project webpage is at http://www.rockbox.org Rockbox runs on a wide variety of devices, including those made by Archos, Cowon, iriver, Toshiba, Sandisk and Apple. Information about the features Rockbox offers in comparison with the manufacter's original firmware can be found at http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/WhyRockbox Many chip manufacturers have supported Rockbox by making datasheets for their products available, this includes Freescale (the Coldfire range of processors and the i.MX31), Hitachi (the SH-1 CPU), Wolfson (their range of audio codecs are used in many DAPs supported by Rockbox), Philips (the common PCF50605/6 PMUs) and others. Unfortunately some other manufacturers (most notably PortalPlayer, whose SoCs were used until recently in iPods and are also in players by Sansa and iriver) have refused to release documentation, and the Rockbox developers have had to use reverse-engineering to port Rockbox to those devices. This leads to poorer support for such devices when compared to those with publically available documentation. We have recently started porting Rockbox to devices running your TCC77x series of SoCs, specifically the TCC771L (the iaudio 6 & 7) and the TCC773L (the Logik DAX DAB/MP3 player). The effort so far has been based on reverse-engineering of the original firmwares distributed by the manufacturers of those devices and hence is slow. We are therefore writing to you to ask if you would like to assist the Rockbox project by making any datasheets for the TCC77X series of SoCs available for our use. Sincerely, Hein-Pieter van Braam Dave Chapman Rockbox.org
