Snowball and Napoleon In the book Animal Farm, the main character at the beginning of the book was Old Major. He was a prize boar who was leader of the animals under Mr. Jones. His two followers were Snowball and Napoleon who were also pigs. All of the pigs were in a higher class, because they learned to read and write. The comparison between snowball and napoleon is simple, they were no way alike. The first real leader was Snowball who showed the animals how to get food and grain, and he learned how to use the tools which were made for humans. After the death of Old Major, the pigs took control, and put the seven commandments in place. These commandments were meant not to be broken, yet the pigs bent them some. The pigs learned to read and write, and lead the other animals. Snowball had found a book of Julius Caesar and he planned the defense against Mr. Jones and the other farmers attempt to take the farm back. It was known as the Battle of Cowshed. Snowball was awarded Animal Hero First-Class. Snowball had originally made plans for the building of a windmill. Napoleon apposed by urinating on the plans, and asked for a vote to build the windmill, and the rivalry began. Napoleon was different from Snowball, so when it came time for the election you knew that something bad was going to happen. None of the other animals knew it, but Napoleon had raised puppies to big dogs to dislike Snowball. So when the voting started, napoleon called for the dogs to attack, and ran snowball off of the property. As time went on, Napoleon began using abuse of language to trick the other animals into believing that Napoleon is always right, and that life is now easier, but it really wasn’t. Food became hard to get, and the animals were made to work, or killed. Napoleon began to become more like a human, and life became harder for the animals. Snowball and Napoleon were different pigs. Snowball was a better leader, who made life easy on the animals. Snowball came up with the idea for the windmill and the ideas for a better farm, with buildings and electricity, and other things. Snowball wasn’t mean to the animals like Napoleon was. Napoleon was a bad leader. He made life hard for the animals, and broke the commands and changed them. He also kept extra food, milk, and beer to himself. In Animal Farm, Snowball was a leader who did his best to make life easier on the other animals. Napoleon made life harder for the animals, and tried to make more food and necessities for himself and the pigs. Napoleon was trading with humans, and breaking the commandments. The commandments got changed quickly, and everything was easier for him, but not the animals. Animal far was changed back to Manor Farm, and life was just as it was under Mr. Jones.
