Gentlemen: I believe you missed my point. I suggested a longer beta testing, reporting and patching timeframe; not merely longer patching time. An abbreviated testing timeframe doth not make for an accurate reporting and compilation of known bugs. Version numbers appended with "r1" attest to that. We all have our own indidual talent kits. I'm not a coder, though have fiddled around here and there with config files and some scripts. Not being afraid to use the command line puts me in the "knows just enough to be dangerous" category. I've b0rked more than few things in my foolish vain attempts at emulating The Leet. Some quests have been successful; others not. Sometimes lessons have even been learned. heh. Some of we less-than-guru-status Puppy types best serve the distro in the capacity of testing beta releases and reporting bugs. This is how we help out in our own small way: end user guinea pigs. We anxiously anticipate new Puppies being born, enthusiastically run them through their paces and report real (and sometimes imagined) problems to The Gurus. This is our active contribution. For some of us, this is the best we can do. And we love being a part of the process; as small and relatively insignificant as that part of the overall project may seem. It's what we do ... So when a valuable utility like bkup2cd "just doesn't work" in v1.08, was reported so and remains unpatched through v2.12, we mere beta testing, end user guinea pigs just might start to squeal in dissatisfaction. When we offer the suggestion of a slightly less maniacal new release cycle, we are often poo-pooed for not having respect for "the goals" or appreciation of "the experiment." And no, I didn't contact Sigmund, whoever Sigmund may be. I opened bkup2cd.sh and noted "#(c) Copyright Barry Kauler 2004,2005 www.goosee.com/puppy" on line three of the script. The script calls up cdrecord, which I found was written by one Jorg Schilling http://www.opensolaris.org/os/article/2005-05-06_profile__j_rg_schilling/ A casual search for "Sigmund" on Murga's forum reveals forum user "zigbert" frequently making obscure reference to a "Sigmund." Another notation in bkup2cd on line 156 says "#Note, some of this based on bkup2cd by r.f.smith 2001 gpl". I'm apparently missing something that's obvious to others, Rarsa. Care to enlighten me?
