i made this quickly from the mind map and gave it to him in print. Proposal for tomato (working title) what? is a journal. prints meaningful articles. will exhibit fluent english and sound reasoning. first one out at december 8. why? std.11-12 do not have periodical after failed terra neo attempt. there is no publishable 'news' in school, content for a newsletter has to be painfully generated, so a journal. how? will be sent for print every saturday. contains 6 pages (12 sides). <> and <> would be coeditors. anyone can contribute. a wiki site on the internet where people post their articles. gets approved by editors and enters the journal. approval process is strict. coeditors are primary contributors. wiki site also used by readers for commenting, see how new articles are shaping up, suggest topics. if increased interest, forum could be setup to facilitate discussions at wiki site. the online site would be setup using free services unless school wishes otherwise. content depends on sensibilities of editors. if school is paranoid it can have its proxy read final version on saturday before it goes to print to flag inappropriate content, or better, trust the sensibilities of editors. resources? publishing -responsive contact person who handles the printing -size of printable area -file types supported by printer -will it be screen print? yes, what kind? 2-colour or black and white? (decides whether photos go into journal) -what shades of black/grey will printer support? -need all this information asap as only then can calculate the words per page and begin working with real articles. other -space. office kind of thing. the journal is a online collobrative effort so physical space is not imperative. this is just to make people see that school respects this kind of activity. <> content? below section is tentative -no editor's note, no introduction. -12 sides contain, 12 sensible, meaningful articles. thats it. -no permanent columns. topics decided with each issue. -graphics, pictures, puzzles avoided -the wiki site and online office suites are main tools for editors to collobrate and work on journal. --end of print-- i dont think he even read 1/4th of it. i think he just read 'what' and 'why' and started talking about unrelated things. his response: got to worry about the 'trees' (cant waste paper). can put it online. write as much as you want, update it as often as you want. did not seem very enthusiastic about printing it. said newsletter is one thing (popularises school) a journal other. (my comment to you:i dont like terra neo because you have to sit and literally generate content for it, and it seems so dumb. what news in a school? and then when you read what you have written you cant imagine how stupid you look.) his reponse: said costs of printing it even monthly could be prohibitive. can approve of it as two times a term. or at the end of the year we put everything in a year book. i did not like this. pushed him a little. he finally said make one and if it is good we will 'see'. me to you: if you want it to go to print you really got to bowl him over with what goes in that journal (i do not think ex-students and stupid sisters are going to help us here). we are aiming at 6 pages (12 sides). six articles are yours, six mine. atleast the first issue (through which we want him to go absolutely over so he agrees to publish it) is going to be just you and me (cant afford quality dilution). make it top notch. besides i dont think there is point in printing it (but if he agrees better), he has agreed to a two term print or a yearbook print. no one reads papers now. everything is digital. digital content is far more respected than papers. just because everyone can publish online doesnt mean it is any less. you can differentiate quality stuff because very little of it is there online. also, this way you can prove to the univ. that you were a editor in a school journal (the worst the can happen is that it gets published online + twice term + yearbook). i see it as an opportunity to develop a habit to write sustainably. i dont know how committed you are to this. you said you want ex-students because you dont want to write everything. if you think writing about topics that interest you and submitting 6 articles a weak is tirring, we will back off right now. remember this is only going to get done if you are interested. if you are even a little iffy, sort that out first. i will setup the online site/wiki in two days. till that time decide whether you even want to get into this. i am all for it.
