Dear Mr. Prentice, The upcoming copyright amendment as listed on [1] has me quite concerned. I would like to know why the government hasn't been more transparent in the process leading up to the passing of such an important piece of legislation. I'm a student in Montreal and a reader of the popular boingboing.net blog. Recently Cory Doctorow outlined [2] some of the potential laws that may come into effect. I, as well as many of my peers strongly disagree with anti-circumvention policies which seem to be one of the hot topics that Mr. Doctorow mentioned might make it into this bill. I think it would be terribly irresponsible for the Canadian government to restrict it's citizens with such a bogus law. For example, such a restriction would prevent myself and hundreds of thousands of other Linux users from legally watching DVD movies. In order for us to currently watch these movies we must first circumvent the encryption on the disk to access the video. This is because there is no freely licenced DVD playback software that is endorsed by the CMPDA/MPAA for the Linux platform. I beg of you to not help pass this law if will hurt Canadian consumers. Thank you for your time, Mr. Moo Cow [1] http://preview.tinyurl.com/2smd3h [2] http://www.boingboing.net/2007/11/27/canadas-coming-dmca.html
