The problem the researcher was testing during this project was “in which medium do plants grow taller, in a set amount of time?” The purpose of the experiment was for farmers. From this experiment, they could benefit by using my data to let their plants grow faster, and taller. By doing so, the market for plants could possibly increase. My procedure was to place 10 lima bean seeds in 10 separate pots. I then placed 2 seeds in pots containing dirt, which acted as the control for the experiment. Then, I put the other 8 seeds in different mediums. The other mediums were sand, water, silica gel, and newspaper. I placed 2 seeds in each. The next step was to water each medium, with the same amount of water at the same time each day, also with the seeds getting the same exposure to sunlight as each other. The next step in my procedure was to take measurements of plant height on a regular basis, until the experiment ended. Data was taken by removing the plants from the pots during the tests, and pulling the roots to the total length (without breaking force). In conclusion, the experiment proved the researcher wrong, as dirt was not the best medium to grow plants in. As it turns out, silica gel was.
