Daniel, As you may or may not be aware there was once a sister community to Macteens known as Linuxteens. It was relatively busy, bordering on the thriving. A number of members were — and possibly still are — MT members. Unfortunately the domain and other related resources were owned and controlled by Macteens. Without mentioning names, a certain MT administrator tended to be a little bit fascistic when it came to controlling Linuxteens. Nevertheless we trooped on, most of use unaware as to what the Zach (the LT admin) had to struggle with behind the scenes; but things couldn’t continue as they were forever. The thing which really signified the end was the linuxteens.com domain expiring. Now, the aforementioned MT administrator knew full well what was happening, but didn’t think to tell anyone from LT before it happened. When the time finally did run out, there was no warning nor any chance to rectify the situation. Out of the 100 or so registered members only a select few knew what was going on via the IRC channel after it happened, and by then it was too late. The unnamed MT admin decided to take it upon himself to register the domain again without LT’s consent and refuse access to it. He then proceeded to attempt to sell it back at an extortionate price (bordering on $300 if I recall correctly). So Zach decided to pack it in and split from the MT group. And so teenLUG was born. After the MT split many members had no idea what had happened due to MT’s behaviour. And so we were left with only a few core members left. After a while one or two old LT members found their way back, but all in all it was an almost fatal blow to the Linux teen community. TeenLUG is still surviving, but in my honest opinion on its last legs. A few members have attempted to write their own content management system to try and give life to teenLUG but it has ended up in a fair number of flare-ups and even one member leaving altogether, and with such few numbers we just can’t afford one of our most valued members being run out. Which is why we have returned to ask for your help. Myself (fophillips to many, “the mac man” to some) and Robert Barry (x_rob, who was in fact the member who has left teenLUG) have devised the idea of working in partnership with MT and its new staff. We were thinking of having a fortnightly editorial slot designed to help those teen Mac users who either use Linux or are just curious about it. We could offer guides and short articles on it’s use and function, and potentially have a support forum now that the Linux section has been replaced.
