root user:
- configure pacman: nano /etc/pacman.conf
- install python: pacman -S python
- rank mirrors: rankmirrors /etc/pacman.d/core
- update system: pacman -Syu
- add new user: adduser
- install x server: pacman -S xorg
- install graphics drivers:
	pacman -S nvidia (nvidia cards)
	pacman -S catalyst (ati cards)
- generate xorg.conf:
	Xorg -configure
	mv /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
- edit xorg.conf: nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf
	- ensure driver is specified in device section
	- add specs to monitor section:
		HorizSync	30.0 - 130.0
		VertRefresh	50.0 - 100.0
	- set color depth in screen section:
		DefaultDepth	24
	- add modes in display section:
		Modes	"1680x1050" "1280x1024" "800x600"
- configure audio drivers:
	- install alsa utilities: pacman -S alsa-utils
	- add user to group: gpasswd -a username audio
	- set volume levels as normal user: alsamixer
	- save alsa settings: alsactl store
	- add alsa as startup daemon: nano /etc/rc.conf
		- add 'alsa' to daemons list
- start hal and fam daemons:
	/etc/rc.d/hal start
	/etc/rc.d/fam start
- add hal and fam as startup daemons: nano /etc/rc.conf
	- add 'hal' and 'fam' to daemons list
- install xterm: pacman -S xterm
- install fonts: pacman -S ttf-ms-fonts ttf-dejavu ttf-bitstream-vera
- install prefered graphical environment and tools

normal user:
- setup xinitrc: nano ~/.xinitrc
