i'm trying to make a country/state selector which is a pair of select lists (can see it here: http://www.mrnaz.com/js/js2.php ) i'm trying to make it degrade gracefully for noscript users. at the moment, the file loads the country list, and the server side loads the state list into a JS array. then, when the user clicks a country, the array is iterated through, and matching items are added. in order to make it degrade gracefully, i want to have a full list of all countries' states there, and then onload the list is emptied of all by JS. that way, noscript users will just need to ensure that they select the state in the correct country. the trouble is, this means the server sends the state list twice, once to populate the select and once to populate the JS array, this is about 400kb of markup. i have mod_deflate on, but still, i dont want to have to display the list twice. is there a way to do this without loading the list twice, but still providing noscript users with a usable function?
