An American tourist has discovered the use of irony during a recent visit to the capital city: "I was walking down a street in London when suddenly there was a heavy downpour. I took shelter in a doorway and while I was waiting for the rain to ease off a man walked by trying to open an umbrella. He looked at me and said, "Nice weather," before walking off with his umbrella up. At first I was confused. Why would he say 'Nice weather' when it obviously wasn't? Then I realised he was having an irony with me. I could hardly contain my excitement." Brett Kapple was an ordinary working class American man until his life changing discovery. As he spoke on the phone from his trailer park home in Wisconsin, Arizona the enthusiasm was apparent in his voice. "Man, I realised this was something that was going to blow people's minds back home. I decided I was going to try an irony myself as soon as possible. When I got home I was having a barbecue with the family. I had a couple of burgers on the grill and burnt the crap outta them. I turned to my family, "Nice weather." I said. None of them got it. It went way over their heads. I fully enjoyed my first irony and plan to use lots more in the future."
