Résumé – Visual Arts 05.Nov.2007 My work in the field of visual arts consists of images either created entirely, or heavily enhanced, with computer programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Draw, Apophysis, Inkscape, and The Gimp. I started working with some of the above mentioned programs 5 years ago (summer 2002). Since then I have been devoting ever increasing amounts of time, not only to learning how to use the programs' interfaces, but also to studying different, computer-specific, styles of composition (eg. vectorart, grunge art) and understanding mechanisms involved either in image manipulation (eg. blur algorithms), or in image rendering (eg. fractal and flame generation). Initially, my works had no specific purpose and was put in use either as desktop backgrounds¹, or, later on, published on my modest deviantART account, which still exists, but is no longer in active use. At the beginning of 8th grade I was asked by my arts teacher to help out with the school calendar, and I readily accepted the offer. That first school calendar I worked on turned out to be a fiasco, but nonetheless it motivated me to do better on the next occasion. As a matter of fact, I continued working on the school calendars yearly since then, and in the last 3 years, have come to do the entire design on my own². On several occasions, alongside the calendar itself, I have worked on the Christmas greeting cards of our school³. Finding myself as really enjoying implication with design, in 10th grade I proceeded to redesign the school's website¹¹, which you can access under www.colegiulgerman.ase.ro, but which was sadly never finished, due to a lack of implication on the part of those responsible for gathering content. In 11th grade I offered to redesign the Prize-diplomas and the logo of our school. My logo proposal was temporarily rejected; however the diplomas have been adopted not only as the standard for prizes on basis of academic achievement, but also as the standard for some teacher-organized projects and competitions¹². At present I have just finished work on the invitations and diplomas for this year's “Bobockenbal” (a ball organized for the 9th graders, usually accompanied by a talent-competition)¹³; and am looking forward to this year's calendars, images of which I would be very glad to share with you, once they are done, should you be interested. I have not taken any arts courses outside of school, and my entire knowledge is gathered either from books, or, to the greater extent, from the internet; entirely in my free time. I have not participated in any arts competitions; not due to a lack of will or interest, but because, at least in Romania, any artwork created with heavy implication of a computer is considered a lesser form of art. There are subsequently very few corresponding competitions, and the few competitions which exist are sponsored by producers of alcoholic beverages, with the ultimate effect that people not yet of age, such as myself, cannot participate. ________________________________________ ¹ – images either 1024x768 or 1280x1024, in .jpg format, located on the CD under /bg_format/ , everything except the fonts is my own creation. ² – images of the last 2 of the school calendars I worked on, in .jpg format, although originally created as .cdr for printing purposes. Drawings figuring in the calendars are not my own work, but the work of 5 to 8-graders under the supervision of one of the school's arts teachers. The images are on the CD under /calendar/ . ³ – two Christmas greeting cards from 2006 under /greeting_cards/ . They may seem overly simple, but the great deal of white background was left due to the fact that they were to be printed on gold-sparkling paper. ¹¹ – The site, hosted on the servers of the ASE (Academy for Economic Studies), may be down for short periods of time due to some server issues. Should you not be able to access it at all, I would be glad to send you some screenshots, and the source code by email. Credits under http://www.colegiulgerman.ase.ro/index1.php?l=de&p=credits . ¹² – The diplomas, based on the same model, but in 3 different color hues , corresponding to different purposes, are on the CD under /diplome/ , everything – except the fonts and the pictures of Goethe – including brushes, patterns, and pattern pictures, is my own creation. ¹³ – The invitations and diplomas are on the CD under /bobo_2007/ ; sadly, the colors may not correspond to how they were intended due to some monitor calibration issues I have since using Linux. If the pictures appear to be pink rather then light mauve, try a light temperature closer to 9300K. Additionally I have added 3 pictures, which do not fit in any of the above mentioned categories, but which I am very fond of, under /misc/ . The picture called Valley is puzzled together out of more than 10 different images, and portrays an imaginary landscape the basis of which are 4 (merged together) pictures of the valley of the river Olt in Romania. Manipulation consisted in adding the two castles (one located in Florence, the other in Alba-Iulia), adding fog, colorizing, and deleting elements such as a highway and a bridge. If you are interested I would be glad to show you the pictures from which I started. Everything visible in any of these 3 works is my own creation (Including the photographies). The (C)Chymera visible on some images is my “signature”.
