Hey there i was wondering if the qualifications required to get access to one of these courses is open to interpretation? I currently have 8 standard grades, one higher (computing), a few computing-based INT2's and some parts of the old HNC. I' am not sure if James Watt is teaching the new HNC or not. The old HNC had similar parts, mainly HTML and PSU, both of which i have completed. I' am not sure if the module number is the same on these modules that you teach. I also already have Multi User Operating Systems, which is covered in your HND (although again I'am not sure if the module numbers match up). I know i would probably get into the HNC course with no problem, but i' am looking for something more of a challenge. I don't believe the HNC will be challenging enough for me and require something more experienced and would like to apply for the HND course. I have relevant experience which may go beyond what is required for the HND course. This involves: running a small public access linux system which gives out system administration capabilities to the general public (http://www.darktech.org.uk) on virtualization software which i have setup and maintained myself. I hope to let colleges and other public institutions use this feature in the future. This involves activities such as: Setting up mysql, php, apache etc from source. Chrooting above services for extra security. Optimizing services to provide faster response speeds. Setup of suexec which allows users to run processes under their own uid instead of that of the webserver. Setup of virtualization software and building a telnet based administration system for the backend to interface the web server (http://www.openvz.org). Setup of small containers to allow users to have root on their own separate virtual system to learn linux. Setup of a reverse-proxy (squid) to deal with multiple web servers load balanced on one ip address. Setup of vlans. Compiling and patching various aspects of the kernel source I currently do some Linux administration work for Mabus Hosting in my spare time. (http://www.mabushosting.net) and HTML and web based development at the Caley Youth Centre in Stevenson as a volunteer. I also have: In-depth experience of Linux and Unix operating systems (Debian, Redhat, Fedora, Slackware, Freebsd and Openbsd). In-depth experience of Microsoft server setups, such as microsoft windows server 2003 and windows server 2000 which involves setup of active directory, IIS based web services, patching and general maintenance of the system and setup of strong security policies such as DEP. I also have a very good working knowledge of optimization of windows based server systems. In-depth experience of setting up complicated local area networks with separate subnets and routing done on linux, along with QOS/Layer7 packet shaping technologies in linux and setup of wireless technologies and wireless securities such as WPA2 with RADIUS authentication and AES encryption standards. In-depth experience/setup of firewall technologies such as SPI, Anti-DOS techniques, DMZ, egress filtering and Windows Firewall/iptables/ipfw/ipfilter and pf. I Would be very greatful if you could get back to me regarding this so that i know what course to sign up for. Many Thanks - Philip Barnham
