Hey everyone. How in the world does one specify that a window ought to be resizable from within XUL? I know you can pass a flag to openDialog, but what about the main window? Firefox seems to do it magically somehow, and I can't figure out how or where. As I recall the main window has a set of flags specified too Mossop: Any idea where you set them? The main window is being created directly from XML, and there seems to be no flags or windowfeatures attribute. Even Google is stumped. Well what are you trying to do this for? I'm trying to make a very, very lightweight browser. So using xulrunner or something? Basically just a window with a toolbar and a tabbrowser control. Well, launching Firefox with a -chrome argument, but yeah, essentially. No thats a bit different Im not sure how you'd go about doing it for that case Would using XULrunner be better, do you think? Depends whether you need features from firefox or not I'm not sure what features are from XUL and what features are from Firefox... I need a tabbed browser pane that uses Gecko to render things, I need a toolbar with back and forward buttons, and I need the ability to view plug-in content. That's pretty much it. Thats currently all in the toolkit to the best of my knowledge so should work as well on xulrunner. I know there are plans to move tabbrowser out of the toolkit in the future though *nods* Well, I'm all for being robust... Firefox somehow makes its window resizable, so it must be possible, but I don't know how to go about it. developer.mozilla.com appears to be down right now though, so I can't do much research on XULRunner... I remember there being a fairly easy way to do it with the main window of an xulrunner based app. I dont know about a firefox chrome launch but due to the server outages I cant really investigate much right now :( Indeed... makes things kind of annoying for me too. :) --> jen- (chatzilla@moz-FFE09C93.hsd1.ma.comcast.net) has joined #xul --> yu_li_yan (wanderer@9B76AF77.D7C098D2.7BA3D395.IP) has joined #xul If anyone else is awake now, and knows how to allow resizing of a window that's created directly in XUL, I would be most grateful to hear. Well for an xulrunner app, you set the preference toolkit.defaultChromeFeatures to the flags you want passing to the openWindow cass s/cass/call Hm... I wonder if that would work here... I havent yet found where -chrome is interpreted to see if anything similar is possible *nods* I'm a total newbie to XUL... so I really have no idea if the way I'm doing things is the best, or even viable. I'm a little nervous about the possibility that tabbrowser is moving out of the toolkit, and I'm using some things from Firefox right now like toolbar images and whatnot, so I think the -chrome solution might be best... if I could even figure out how to make the window hidden initially, then close it and open a new resiza But the window ignores hidden="true", and I'm not sure how I'd tell Javascript what window to open anyway. Well tabbrowser wont be moving until at least firefox 3. And even then, its not that difficult a thing to create anyway *nods* Okay, that's one good thing then... and I guess I could just copy the toolbar button images and CSS out of Firefox to use with XULRunner... Of course, I just installed xulrunner and have no idea how to invoke it. :/ Well you need to write an application.ini file for your app. you probably want to look at the simplebrowser xulrunner example app that probably does half of what you need I mean I can't even find the XULrunner command. heh I'm on OS X, I should mention... it seems to have installed it into the bowels of my system somewhere. --> Mook (mook@moz-399862BF.vc.shawcable.net) has joined #xul Hrm then Im afraid I dont know what it would have done. I have about zero experience with OS X Ah, I think I just found the command line tool at least. xulrunner-bin, in /Library/Frameworks/XUL.framework (how intuitive) Aha, found where -chrome is handled. You can specify a width or height but nothing else for the features. Ah, thanks for checking. :) That would have been nice. Actually. Are you doing an extension or something for this? No, I don't think so... I'm just implementing it from scratch using the toolkit, I think. !req scrollback ;)
