[02:47] hi can anyone help? i keep getting a crash on signal 9 -- /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb [02:47] and it says system group can't be same as user group [02:47] but i dont really know what these debug msgs mean [02:47] and my printer doesnt work [02:47] i've followed all the directions on the cup troubleshooting/debugging page, but again, i'm not that familiar, and i dont really know what all the info means [02:47] so i have a lot of debugging info, but i'm really not sure what it means.. and i need help [02:48] also, recently i did a feisty to gutsy upgrade. it was all working fine before that. now it doesn't print. just permanently processes jobs in the queue. [02:48] please msg me when you are around and can. thanks -- very grateful. [02:52] i dont know what else debugging info you might need [02:52] there's also some error.. unknown directive.. hideimplicitmembers.. ? [02:53] also, it seems to say unable to find ip address for server name? [03:00] i hope this is enough to get someone started.. i've tried a few times to get some help in here.. and i'm giving all the info i have/can.. oh, also my linux kernel is 2.6.22-14-386.. gutsy kubuntu distro.. [03:06] oh, here is the cups log, too: http://pastebin.ca/931547 http://pastebin.ca/932258 arghh.. [11:59] I see a whole bunch of network-messages :-) [11:59] ahm I don't see where the printer gives the error that stops it from printing [12:00] ok, so i will turn off all the printer networking stuff, and see [12:02] you could try something like: bs -sDEVICE=ijs -sDeviceModel='deskjet 3320' -sOutputFile=page%d.out /path/to/pdf and see if that gives you any errors... afterwards you might try to echo the result of one of the pages to your printer to see if that gives you anything [12:07] http://pastebin.ca/932274 new try [12:09] crackhead_25: there is only data about the connection on it... you have to A) generate it quicker after the request or B) raise the number of lines substantially [12:09] probably B is the easier (I know it was me that told you that -n 150 would be enough... I was wrong) [12:10] how do i raise the lines and make it copy the output to a new text file instead of outputting on the command console? [12:11] cat /path/to/log | tail -n enter-your-number-here > /path/to/file [12:13] http://pastebin.ca/932276 [12:16] madnificent: http://pastebin.ca/932276 that's the new one [12:17] crackhead_25: if you look at the log yourself (in the terminal: cat /path/to/log | less) you will see that there are still no errors here... you may try to print again and save the log << enter /Job to search for something about the job, then typ n for the next match and N for the previous one [12:20] ok, so im seeing the finding of "job", but what is this telling me? [12:21] crackhead_25: around that region, you printed something... [12:21] crackhead_25: the ones about the cupsdCloseClient are -I think- about the connection with your network [12:26] crackhead_25: the first letter tells you what kind of output it is: debug, info, error (debug is just information, info is allso information, error is what you ought to be looking for)
