Dear Tiksters! As has been suggested, we will try to pull a project together to create subtitles for Flatland: The Film. We have been in further contact with the Director, Mr. Ladd Ehlinger Jr., who said that he would like the film to have subtitles but can not afford to make them. As a few of you have already expressed your wish to help create subtitles, I figured we should get this show on the road. There are a few parts involved in creating subtitles, as you may or may not know. Some part require experience and some technical know-how, while others require only language skills. We might get a transcript from the Director to work off of, but assuming that we don't, we will need to write down everything that is said in the movie as a basis for the subtitles. If, which in my opinion we absolutely should, we want to create subtitles for the hearing impaired; sound effects, music, etc will also need to be "captured" into text format. More is usually better, which in this case holds true. We would liket to see these subtitles translated into as many languages as possible. Obviously we will need people who speak (or at least read/write) both English and a second language (Spanish, Poruguese, French, German, Swedish, Norweigan, Mandarin, Turkish... Anything!) fluently. But there is also a need for people who don't neccessarily know English, but are more than proficient in their own language - to help correct the text, make it sound natural (without distorting the meaning) and of course... SPELL CHECKING! In addition to translating, the subtitles must be TIMED in order to show up at the right time. We can certainly make use of more than one person helping to do this, so even if you're a bit limited on free time but you're interested, please don't hesitate to apply. Lastly, someone with a good graphical and design taste would be good, to typeset he fonts (make sure they are easy to read for everyone, on every screen. Colors, sizes, outlines...) and perhaps, if needed and if fitting, add some simple special effects to the subtitles. If you have interest and/or know-how, please contact Wacko or reply to this thread. Anyone who becomes involved in this WILL receive a bonus here on Cinematik and, if you'd like, might possibly be credited on the DVD if Mr. Ehlinger uses our subtitles.
