The general scenario Klesgrossisten is a newly established Norwegian company.. As the name suggest they are a wholesale merchant of clothes, and they are hoping to get a place within the large franchise companies. They have good products, and can offer competitive prices. Company headquarters is situated in Sarpsborg, and several branch offices will be opened. There is already a branch office in Oslo. Klesgrossisten’s staff consists of 17 employees. The sales staff constitutes 11 people. 4 are co-workers (Kontormedarbeider), 2 are leaders (Ledelse ) and 1 is manager of purchases (Innkjøpsansvarlig). The General Manager is also responsible for IT. Klesgrossisten wants you to give an estimate of how long it will take to implement the sought for solutions. In addition you are asked to describe the technologies and methods one must utilize to implement the different solutions that are needed below. Requirements specification It is required that the following is installed/documented: - Klesgrossisten wants to have a client/server network with 2003 Server and Windows XP as clients. - The company wants two domain controllers. Suggestions concerning more than two will be accepted as long as the reasons are given. - Klesgrossisten expect a relatively large growth over the next five years and therefore want: o A structure for naming computers, servers, etc. o A structure for naming users. o A structure for naming groups. o A structure for naming resources (E.g. DFS). - The company consists of seven departments which are Administrasjon, Ledelse, Salg-sørnorge, Salg-midtnorge, Salg-nordnorge, Salg-Oslo and Innkjøp. The list below shows who works in which department. o Create an appropriate Active Directory structure. Describe why theis structure was chosen. o Every department should have access to a folder that is accessible only for that department. o The administration (Ledelsen) must be able to see all departments’ folders. o All users should have own user accounts. o All users should have private homefolders that are only accessible for each user. o Common folders that are open to all users should be created. If you have any ideas about how these data can be made accessible in all locations, so that access over WAN links can be avoided, the company will be very satisfied. - TCP/IP configuration must be automatic on all clients. o The Default Gateway must be set up o Required services for name resolution must be set up o Servers must have the same IP address after very reboot - All employees should have personal settings that follow then no matter where they logon. - The IT Manager must have administrative rights. It is desirable that the administrator can administer all servers from his workstation. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows 2003 Servers: I am suggesting to use 2 domain controllers on each location, two domain controllers each location will allow each location to loose their main domain controller but continue to replicate and authenticate locally instead of across the WAN, this will also be more important in the future as the company grows. The domain controllers on both locations will be installed with the MS Server 2003 Standard Edition CD Server disk(s) should be either partitioned or have multiple disks, for shares,AD and distribution(RIS min 4Gb) After Server 2003 is installed, “dcpromo” will be issued on the first server, and we will provide the domain name, and install Active Directory(AD). Further on DHCP Server and DNS Server would install , for automatic ip allocation for clients and name resolution. Further the remaining Servers are issued the “dcpromo” command, and joined with out existing domain, and installed with DHCP and DNS Remote Installation Service(RIS) is to be installed on 1 Server on each location, When starting RIS setup, a Windows XP Proffesional Edition CD is provided to make a “flat-image” for a distribute share, that resides on a separate partition or disk. At the end of setup DHCP is autohorized. In addition a unattended setup file is made by using setupmgr.exe The two DHCP Servers on each location are using a split address range. With the DHCP services, the internal NIC on the servers gets hard-assigned IP addresses based on MAC address(Reserveations). Proposal for Naming structure: Computers: Location_Department_user Users: 3 first letters in name+surename Groups: Location_Department Resources: Location_Department Resource_type Proposal for AD structure: oslo > admin ledelse salg_oslo sarpsborg > admin ledelse innkjop salg_midtnorge salg_nordnorge salg_sornorge Users & computers are added in their respective OU’s, computers are Prestaged by supplying their GUID. Each department’s members are joined a group for that department Shared folders for each department are created and the respective group is given permission Administartion also have permission here. Each user gets a roaming profile by adding a path to a profile folder on the server, And each user gets a mapped home folder by adding a path on the server to their folder And chose the “mapping/connect to” option, permissions are also added. “common” shared folders are created with permission for all. In Distrubuted File System(DFS) a new root is made and all shared folders are added, and File replication is enabled, to avoid access over the WAN. Setting Deafult Gateway as the last ip in the range. IT admin is give administrative rights, and are added as a remote desktop user. Wndows XP Clients: Using either Remote Boot Disk Generator(rbfg.exe) or PXE compilant network cards, All workstations are booted to the network and logged on to the domain controller that has the RIS server on it, then the unatended winxp install starts after confirming install questions before the installer starts.
