SCENE 8-3 CLOUD CITY -- OUTSIDE TORTURE CHAMBER

/Sound: Corridor, outside torture chamber, comes up. Sounds of Han's torture in the next room.  Sparks, crackling, humming, snapping electricity, etc./

HAN: IN THE NEXT ROOM. SCREAMS INTERMITTENTLY AS HE'S TORTURED.

LANDO: (APPROACHING) What're they doing in there? Where's Han, Fett?

FETT: (HELMET) Lord Vader is ... chastising him, Calrissian.

LANDO: Torture was never part of the bargain!

FETT: Then, why don't you complain to Vader? I would enjoy seeing the Dark Lord lose his patience with you.

LANDO: Is it true that gun of yours only works when somebody's got his back turned?

FETT: Don't push me!

LANDO: Someday, bounty hunter, you and I are going to meet when you haven't got a division of stormtroopers to back you up!

FETT: And what will happen then, Calrissian?

LANDO: See this face? Memorize it; it's going to be the last thing you ever see!

/Sound: Power door opens. Vader enters, mask breathing./

HAN: OFF SCREAMS.

LANDO: Lord Vader! I've done what you wanted!  You've /got/ to stop turturing Han...

VADER: Presently, Calrissian. Boba Fett, you may take Solo to Jabba the Hutt after I have Luke Skywalker in my grasp.

FETT: Lord Vader -- with all respect, /I/ was the one who found the /Falcon/ for you.  You made certain promises. Jabba wants to make an example of Solo; he's no good to me dead.

VADER: Solo will not be permanently damaged.

LANDO: But what about Leia and Chewbacca?

VADER: They must never again leave Cloud City.

LANDO: But that was never a condition of our agreement! Nor was giving Han to this bounty hunter!

VADER: Perhaps you think you are being treated unfairly, Calrissian? Perhaps you would prefer to dissolve our little ... understanding?

LANDO: I never said that ... No; no, Lord Vader.

VADER: Good! It would be unfortunate if I had to leave a garrison of stormtroopers here on Cloud City.

LANDO: Yes. "Unfortunate."

VADER: You, bounty hunter! (MOVING OFF) Come with me. We have final arrangements to make.

FETT: As you wish, Lord Vader.

LANDO: (TO HIMSELF) This deal is getting worse all the time! (TO OFF) Lobot!  Come here!

LOBOT: (APPROACHING) What is your command, Lando?

LANDO: Tell my guard force to be ready. I don't like the way things are going. And you stay on constant alert.

LOBOT: It shall be as you command, Lando.

LANDO: I've got a bad feeling about all of this!

/Sound: Corridor fades./
