hee I came up with a story for that game with the flashlight and the desert :3 go ahead, short version. a sun is close to going supernova the indigenous people of a near planet haven't developed spaceflight yet so a nice, alien race lifts them off and puts them in a huuuuge generation ship i want to read that. but space is dark and making light is expensive so they put transceivers in their heads that tell their brains that it's day. (they got experience with that kind of manipulation) lol so their brains are making up their own images based on secondary senses and feedback information the transceivers waste more energy than a light source. nah their mostly self-contained mesh networking and a light source would have to be as strong as the sun i accept that but now! the generation ship, slow as it is, is attacked, by pure chance, by a slow-moving race of scavengers (they can hibernate for centuries until they find something to eat) lol reminds me of something anyway, that's the reason you can't see them at first call them Wraith? lol no not sentient. yes, olo! iratus bugs then and the thing is, they don't share the network system lol anyway, that's why you can't see them at first go on... but your flashlight is an _actual_ flashlight. so when you shine it at them, it makes RL light and suddenly your eyes get actual info again see, it makes sense :3
